Would I help Prince by back his masters? Let's see: I've bought every commercial release there is, I have bought plenty copies of his films, paid good money to see him in concert (plenty of times), paid to see "Grafitti Bridge," joined the NPGMC, copped the downloads, got all the side projects (Madhouse and NPG), protegees (Jill Jones, Time, Vanity, Apollonia, etc), bought Mayte and Carmen Electra, lucked up on all the bootlegs, rarities, live stuff, unreleased projects, and still rocking a "Purple Rain" tour shirst from '84. HELL NO! He knew what the hell he was doing when he signed the contract. If anything, he needs to give me and thousands of other "hardcore" fans some unlimited stock in his catalouge for FREE! First, he isn't going to buy them. Tried once already, and couldn't work a deal with WB. Second, WB doesn't "own" the masters, they only have assignment to them. Third, why would he want to buy them back, it isn't long before the assignments start to terminate, and he slowly regains the rights to them.

Exactly right. He'll start getting them back in 2013, starting with For You. Then they'll start flowing in 1 a year, matching the order they released. The law states 35 years is the time period a record company "owns" a piece of work, then in reverts to the artist.
