Obscure

Starmist made my point much more succinctly than what I could at the time of writing it:

"Your point is something about not losing ourselves when it comes to relating to others on this site, and to Prince, and how others have lost it, and how you've noticed that (?) ."

***

I guess what I meant to share was that there is such a loss of intimacy on the net except when it comes to music. Music seems to be a universal language that we all understand and have a personal relationship regardless of our socio-economic status, ethnicity, religion, etc.

When fans/fams become so engrossed in a celebrity, they lose touch with their own humanity as I witnessed at the Celebration, for one. I wasn't there to make friends or to find my soulmate. I went for a few days to enjoy the music but found it irritating that "fams" couldnt seem to show common courtesy to one another or just plain manners. The same type of behaviour that goes on here, which is neither here nor there because this is the net and everything is more exaggerated and dramatic and we come here and expect that.

What really started me on my ranting were the questions that Prince asked of the members attending the celebration. A few posted here and seemed to be honest and forthright, Xxaxx, Moonbeam and a few others. I appreciated their responses. However, I feel at times that as a needy egotistical artist, Prince contrives these situations, celebrations, as someone put it, for the faithful to make the pilgrimage to essentially adulate him in his own house/church. All the while he plays the saint and people put forth a different "face" and really arent true to who they are in the presence of a Rock Star.

My observation was that, while not as scary as some Michael Jackson or Metallica fans... there is an essence of disassociation of the human kind when it comes to Prince and celebrities in general.

There are alot of intelligent posters here, many silly ones with true humorous content and too many dorks (I could pass for one of 'em mr.green)

But when you leave this place, remember who you are, and what you represent. If you're a dumbass here, chances are you're at least a fraction of a dumbass out there in the real world.

Prince has enough problems, dont claim your a Prince FAM unless you can act right.

(My whole point summized in one sentence).

Thanks for the listen.

All aggressive, obsessive, fans no matter who the artist is, are loony.

Prince's fans may dress like 80's retards while trying to emulate the typhoon do' and speak in Prince eubonics like they fucking just got off the short-bus, but they are certainly not the worst.

Unless your stuck with them in a fucking prarie with nothing to do but stand in line for Prince, for a whole week.

Fuck.

I feel for you Obscure.

The celebration was all I expected it to be, and more.
I had a great time!
I was never up front.
I never stared daggers at pretty females.
I met a lot of nice people.
I agree that some are fanatics; every STAR has some.
I love the music.
I don't see anything wrong with the term fam (family)
as compared to fan (fanatic). Family does not connote
undying loyalty, nor total devotion. (just look at
families, today).
Even if all of what you say is true from your
perspective, one must admit that there exist other
perspectives just as legitimate, even admirable.
Beauty and almost everything else depends upon the eye
of the beholder.

That being said, our rantings here on the Org are
downright pathetic at times. Other times, we inspire
one another.

I enjoyed reading your thoughts.

it might all depend on what we're looking for...

I think if you've gone to the Celebration, ideally you'd be going to hear music. Sounds like there were more than a few who wanted to touch Prince's damn robe. Too bad he can't cure some people's Prince-itis.
