Excuse my ignorance here, but was the DVD of 88's Lovesexy tour in Dortmund an official release? I've seen a few VHS versions of the concert that appear official (on websites, etc. with covers) but am not sure about the DVD's. Are they just high-quality bootlegs pumped onto DVD's?

I've never seen the legendary concert and really want to get my hands on it. Is it worth getting one of the DVD's of it?

it is worth getting but if you do see if you can get it on either 2 DVDs or a dual layer DVD.

There is no official release of this show on DVD.

The bootleg DVD releases I've seen look of good quality - I assume they are transferred from the VHS or Laserdisc release since they are the only available sources.

If you like the show and you want it on DVD, get one of the bootlegs.

In the late 80's i remember there was also a "laserdisc" of this concert.
Laserdisc are digital, with the size of a vinyl record.

wrong! laserdiscs are NOT digital...

Despite what some legacy advertising might have led you to believe, laserdisc is not digital video. It's not always digital audio, either. This is not surprising considering that the original "LaserVision" was basically a 1972 technology. LD video is pulse FM.

There is a single track consisting of a continuous spiral of pits and "lands" (non-pits). Encoded on that track are the composite video (luminance, chrominance, sync, info), one or two analog audio channels and a RedBook-style stereo digital PCM audio or DTS digital audio data stream. Dolby AC-3 audio may also be present, and replaces one of the analog audio carriers. Side, track, time, frame and other control signals are encoded, during pre-mastering, in both the Red Book subcodes (if present) and in non-displayed scan lines in the vertical blanking interval of the composite video signal.
