Te Lip Synching Corazon?? Watching the tape of Brits performance.... which was stunning...
Is he miming to a pre-recorded 'live' vocal for the first song?? Then begins using mic for Fury? I think so. Not that I care either way.... so why post you ask? Good question. Maybe to see where the post-police (who are out in force latley) put this. “Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!”

Concerning your "where they put this" remark: I tend to bet 100 £ on the sticky on top of the forum, because that's what it is there for... [Edited 2/17/06 5:23am]

There should be a law that you can't mention John Lennon in the same sentence as James Blunt. Doh! “Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!”

It's 100% live. Prince is actually slightly under pitch when he sings the first line... Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

I noticed that, too. It DID look like he was lip synching TAC. The rest of the songs were live, though, I guess. "I'll be the first one to admit that I am many things, but one thing I am not is ungrateful...thank you..." - Prince

TAC sounded live to me...some of his phrasing sounded different than the recording. if he lip-synched, it was to a track recorded especially for the performance.

Maybe that's what he was recording in London before the show? “Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!”

why do that? seems silly to lip synch that song and do the rest live.

the sound was a bit out of sync at the start, i thought it was cable tv's fault as usual .

It wasn't lip-synched. Doesn't really make sense to lip-synch that song and do the rest live. "Fury" was live (fading sound when he leaves the mic) for sure. The only reason to lip-synch one song and do the rest live could be a problem with his voice (a cold, for example), but why would he lip-synch "Te amo" then and perform songs which are much more challenging for his voice live???

R U people 4 real??

He seems to be mimimng (very well) to 'Te Amo Corazon' and then before he sings 'Fury' fixes the mic and the real vocal kicks in. For a medley of songs like this at a huge technical live programme with many bands and set-ups.... it would be very difficult to mix such a quiet song and then change everything for the rockers. I believe the first song is synched as it would have been too risky to have a sound fluff on such an important occasion. look again, he signals the sound guy before 'Fury' “Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!”

It is still not logical for me. He probably knew the TV would show close-ups of him during TAC (not that much else going on on stage), so why risking an important live perfomance by giving people the chance to witness indications of "lip-synching"? If there really had been a reason why he couldn't sing TAC live (technical or whatever), what decision would have made more sense: 1) Doing lip-synching with taking the risk of being discovered (just imagine the headlines next day...)? 2) Playing something else? BL&B, for example, is a new song too and Tamar would've done the lead vocals. He is not exactly running short on songs, you know...

Jerky - I appreciate your comments and observations however trust me
not lip syncing - I've worked in music for years and have watched P perform live since early 80's and he is definitly singing live The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

LOL....
Don't you all know by now how to tell if Prince is lip syncing? 1st off, the song would sound just as bad as the studio cut. 2nd, I don't think he would be handling a mic, cause he typically doesn't fake lipsync, but makes a point that he is. Obviously, though, the song sounded much better and I actually liked it live. Therefore, it was live. The slow Santanaesque lead was very sweet.

Okay, I know we're all fans and such, but can we please stop over-analyzing EACH AND EVERY SINGLE LITTLE DETAIL. Besides, you know Prince doesn't do that - shame on you for thinking it.

The first song was a pre-recorded 'Live' version that was recorded in London with the band. Prince lip-synched this, all the rest was live singing. It's very doubtful that any instrument apart from Sheila's drums and his guitar were live at all. His last Brits performance {7 years ago} was live singing but the band were pre-recorded. This is quite common with awards ceremonies. “Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!”

This was pure...not tainted or diluted. To say otherwise is disrespectful of the power of the music. Lip synching?? As they say...SQUIRELL PLEASE!! There was no lip stnching done on that night... As usual, this is only my 2 cents. Of course, I could be wrong...

Hey, don't get me wrong...
No disrespect meant at all, if the first song wasn't live then who cares? Prince is THE best live performer of his generation, nobody else comes close. It was probably more a technical thing, Selling Te Amo to non-fans was risky as an opener, but it sounded better than the studio track. Prince is 100% live in concert. Michael Jackson, live in concert? is ALL mimed [including vocals] Awful Madonna, live in concert? Only the ballads are sung live. Dissapointing As David Brent would say..... Fact. Well, it can be done ofcourse, but you'd need a clicktrack to play to for the drummer. Using of these requires the drummer to wear headphones so she can hear the clicktrack and drum to it's beat. As for Prince's vocals.. the difference between a prerecorded vocal and a live one would be too obvious, and in Prince' case useless. In that respect it would make more sense to either do the whole thing either live or prerecorded. Rest assured that this was all live

Overall, it would have been much more complicated (and risky!) to do the performance the way it was suggested with all the tricks instead of just playing the whole shit live.

Prince is a notoriously bad lipsyncher, just watch any TV performance where he's done it... he's terrible at it. Believe me, when he does do it... you can easily tell.
