There is/was/will be a documentary? Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

According to this, it's forever lost to...The Vault. This documentary is so great. Kevin should stop making movies and just do this Q&A for a living, IMO. It's better than his movies... Now...be jealous of my hat.

Just wait for "An Evening with Kevin Smith II: Evening Harder".

I watched this the other day. The guy in the audience that asked the original question had to be a plant, because Kevin proceeded with a hilarious story that did not seem at all spontaneous. The guy asks, "What happened to the documentary you were supposedly doing on Prince", and Kevin launches into a half hour spiel.

I don't think so. He's one to go off on stuff like that and talk for HOURS. He seems really comfortable in front of the crowds.

And I would have asked the question myself if I was at one of those schools.

I registered for HQ and still couldn't view. So was there supposed to be a documentary? Like, is there one completed? I would think that's a good thing. Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

Kevin Smith is a pig. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

i dont think it really puts prince in that bad of a light, its funny... an ordinary guys interaction with a superstar... two totally different worlds meeting... its funny stuff.

Documentary Idea would have been cool if it had a strong producer and some leadership. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.

And, you know, actually released so we could gauge whether it was cool or not...

And, you know, actually released so we could gauge whether it was cool or not... It wasn't cool, but I guess cool is prospective, it was a failure as to what Prince had hoped for. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.

I agree. They are two different personalities. I don't think they would mesh well together in a million years. Prince is too sensitive. Kevin too crude.

What I was saying, was since it was never released (or perhaps even completed since Kevin never got to oversee the editing) how can you pronounce judgements on whether it was cool or not or if it was 'what Prince had hoped for'? It is clear from Kevin's talk that he got little direction as to what Prince wanted and did little more than stand behind the cameras as they shot footage, and for no pay too.

if he's a pig, why do you use a buddy christ (one of the important elements from Kevin Smith's movie "dogma") as your avatar?

1) Kevin Smith is a huge (no pun intended) Prince fan, and is equally a Morris Day and the Time fan. He had Morris and Jerome in the movie "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back"
2) The question was asked because Kevin has as devoted a website fanbase as Prince does, and Kevin keeps an online diary. It was known for years that Kevin was asked to do a documenary for Prince. Prince was familiar with Kevin's movie Dogma, which was filled with Kevin's struggle with his own faith. Kevin was invited and attended the Rave 1999/2000 filming. 3) Kevin is a very (in my opinion) funny story teller. Not just the Prince story, but the other stories he tells on the Tonite Show, on his Website, (www.viewaskew.com), etc. Rent the dvd if you'ld like an entertaining hour or two. 4).I dont believe Kevin would make the story up. There would be too many legal issues. Perhaps he coloured it a little, but basically (my beliefs) the story is true. Let's not be so thin skinned that we can't laugh once in awhile. Prince is not a god, but a mortal.

Before I dig up my username & password for HQ, somebody tell me - is this the actual documentary footage??? Or just a clip from Kevin's college tour dvd?...
I've seen the DVD already, don't wanna log in for that

I've seen the DVD already, don't wanna log in for that It's not documentary footage...just Kevin onstage relating the story to the audience. From what Kevin describes it would be awesome to see some of that footage. I also thought it was really funny that Kevin asked Prince why he wore heels all the time and not sneakers.

I just watched the clip. Very entertaining. Very funny.
It doesn't put Prince in a bad light. It's told from Kevin's perspective. He went, blindly, into a part of Prince's life that he was unfamiliar with. It's his take on the whole thing. And it's funny. A Prince documentary would be a good thing but I think hearing about this project is probably better than the project itself. Kevin is funny but he said it himself; he lacked the passion for this one. Whatever he ended up doing would probably have been a satire because that's how he saw the whole thing. He would be very suited to do a doc on the extreme Prince fan. How could anyone not see the humor in that whole phenomena. At the end of it all, though, one question still lingers: Why did Prince want a Camel at 3 a.m. on a cold winter morning? Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify
