How was the Dream Factory art described?

Anx said:

to be honest, i don't like any of 'em. even as bootleggage goes, none of the images are inspired enough to to justice to the woulda-coulda-shoulda-been glory of the project as it stood at the time. but i'm kinda picky about prince album art. giggle

i don't know that it ever got to the point of having "official" cover art conceptualized or created for it. but this was around the time prince had some of the best cover art in the biz, so i think better cover art is most definitely in order if the bootleggers wanna stay painstakingly true to the times.

Wasn't it described as a photo collage with signatures of all the band members somewhere... perhaps like the inner sleeve of Parade? Or am I imagining this?

If I remember rightly, it was gonna be another hand-drawn cover, made up of
drawings made by all the members of the Revolution.

In light of the discussion of camille being Prince's alter ego..is it possible that that is Prince's body?

AND I took all my non-Prince Paisley Park CD's, coverted them all to MP3 and made this 4-CD compilation that plays on any CD player capable of playing MP3's. I did however have to leave off the TC Ellis album. Partially because of room and partially because it just gives me a headache. lol

Again I thank you. I do some freelance design work out of my home so I have a Mac with Photoshop, Illustrator, Freehand, and all that. Actually I got a nice little raise/promotion at work a couple of years back so lately I've been keeping the freelance stuff to a minimum. But I like to keep my skills sharp so every so often I do a CD cover or something just for fun.

Ha! That would be my dream job. I can see it now, Prince is cruising prince.org on the release date of 3121 to see what the fams are saying about the new album when he comes across my artwork and decides to hire me to do the artwork for the soon to be released Roadhouse Garden CD.

Or...

More likely he picks up the phone, hits speed dial #1 and says, "Londell, slap a lawsuit on this fool!" lol

BUT in all fairness, it is harder to come up with original stuff then juggle the fonts and artwork that's already there! Much props to Laura Lipuma for the string of well designed Prince albums in the 80's (up til Graffiti Bridge showed its ugly ass tacky artwork)

Honestly, I really think the art design on 3121 is pretty decent. Not the best Prince album art ever, but a far cry better than the last few attempts. Still and all, I think Sam's eye for Prince's asthetic is far better than his ability to carry it out by himself...Prince really needs to let Sam build a group of artists who are young and fresh and talented and hungry, and want to really wow the fans and the masses.

Meanwhile, I really dig the Flash work Sam's doing over at the club...I think it's really ambitious, and I think it shows where Sam's heart is in terms of doing design work he enjoys.

NOt only is the artwork for 3121 great for a being colorful gaudy prince yet also very tastefully disciplined in concept and content.... but the DJ rashida website is great....

The artwork to 3121 is really good.... the last good one was Rainbow Children...
