Given the sorry state of the music industry...

...why does anyone obsess over whether or not Prince has a "hit" with 3121? Sure, as fans, we want the buzz and excitement of a popular album, but seeing the junk that seems to dominate the charts nowadays, does a hit really mean anything anymore?

The haters will point to Prince's recent lack of chart success, but there are fewer and fewer quality albums that attain hit status, IMO.

Because most are "pack" people. Many aren't secure enough to like something without first having it validated by others.
Would the songs sound any different if they sold 500 copies or if they sold 5 Billion? The answer(to the majority of people): Yes!

To be completely honest, I was one of those people. I thank God for 3121 because with this album, I FINALLY don't care if Prince has another a hit or not with this CD. I said this in another thread but radio doesn't care about anyone, They sure don't give a fuck about me. They don't play what I want to hear. I don't need the charts to tell me what to hear because they will offer me an inferior product.

I will say this and it may be hypocritcal but here it goes. For the sake of Prince, it would be great, even fantastic if the album does well even debut at #1 because this is what Prince wants and why not support that but it doesn't mean what it used to for me. It was like the charts really was a proof of validation by them saying that my taste in music means something, but it DOES means something for ME and I'm the only one who it should matter to. It would be great to see Prince make a splash but even he I don't think can turn the charts around. I'm just glad it doesn't matter to me anymore. I feel well "emancipated" lol.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
