Knowing Prince, I think he could easily put out The Dance as a single. He likes to release completely different styles of tracks, and this is quite different from all the others.
Of course, there's no guarantee that the video members photos were intended for will ever materialise. It was back when Musicology was still being promoted and many thought it was for a video from this album! Prince shoots many music videos that never see the light of day.

I very much think that it would be for Lolita. It is typical on places like MySpace.com to find profiles with the age listed as "18", but they will describe themselves as sophmores in high school. Nothing but trouble right there. Starrfighter

It wasn't just women, it was men who sent in their photos. Besides, I really don't think a video with Prince trawling the internet for 18 year old girls is really the way to go for good publicity...

Besides, I really don't think a video with Prince trawling the internet for 18 year old girls is really the way to go for good publicity... Too true! Yes, how well the concept works for the song, but how creepy it would be. As for the men- When NPGMC asked for the men's pictures it seemed more of an afterthought (wasn't there a short but longer than you would expect time period between when they asked for the women and then they asked for the men?) I'll bet the men's shots are moderately less. But it could be a much younger character doing the browsing, with cuts to Prince dancing in a club on the hook and instrumental breaks. For the last minute of the vid, it could even go so far so that Prince, the younger main character and the ladies from the net all cross paths in the club and a dance-off ensues. (During the "How bad is this girl?" "Bad!"... "C'mon lets dance") If Prince actually participates in the dance off, I wouldn't expect him to get totally freaky, but it would still be cool. We need more dance-offs these days. More detailed concept... main character browses through a few ads, he stops on some woman, clicks to contact... CUT TO that woman also appears to be browsing the dating site and some random man's profile is already on her screen when she receives notification of a new message and views it. This is from the main character, of course. Some specific parts of verses can easily be used for the body of the message (and actually pretty funny if the guy acts into himself)... and IM works better for this since the words can come onto the screen in rhythm (since he would be "typing" them in real time.) Reaction shots of giggling at what he's writing (half because the guy is trying too hard, half because the girl is interested)... The trick is some creative camera cuts to make the words work as the song itself is written from Prince’s perspective only. These are the moments when we cut to the club earlier in the song to break up the story so it doesn’t get boring. There are opportunities for unique camera angles as we go from the main character's location to the women. Perhaps the transition would take place through the dating profile pic. The camera zooms in on the pic, and the realtime scene is quickly but artistically built around the pic and the pic/(now a scene) unfreezes. There should be two or three different girls that the main character messages. The lyrics will make him seem ridiculously into himself with the things he tells these girls. To one girl he says "Like Frank and Eva, we'd paint the town. Just on the floor, gettin WAY down". To another he says "I know your fine, from HEAD 2 PUMPS. If you were mine, we'd bump Bump BUMP". Like who actually tells people those things? And here is this guy who is telling girl after girl all this stuff. It could be very funny. And of course this guy also thinks he can invite them all to the club on the same night and juggle them (like something Morris Day would try in the PR movie). CUT TO the club where they all meet. Here there should be a few short vignettes where the main character is unsuccessful in keeping the girls separated and unaware of each other. They each diss him (again- should be funny but realistic) and instead take notice of Prince who is working the crowd into a frenzy on the dance floor... *Chanting and Dance Off Ensue* Somewhere in this sequence is a final humiliation of the main character online dating guy. At the very end, Prince will have to say no to these girls. Maybe as he tries to walk out the club all sassy (like he does) after he just threw down, the lolitas are throwing themselves at him. He utters the final end of song "Lolita", and gives them the Black Sweat "You're being naughty" Head Shake of Disapproval (even though on the org we all know he loves it), and he exits. fade to black. The girls don't get Prince, the main character doesn’t get the girls and all is well. The girls should not leave with anyone because they are too young, the main character doesn't deserve them and Prince knows better. ..... So, having never thought about how a video might look for Lolita until writing this post, I have to say that I've impressed myself. I just hope you all could follow it. I wouldn't be surprised if the Lolita video was similar... but I also wouldn't be surprised if it was nothing like it. I also wouldn't be surprised if the video is shot but we never get to see it. And I know what your thinking and the answer is Yes- If you would like to hire me to direct your next video, feel free to get in contact with my people... [Edited 3/13/06 11:15am] Starrfighter

Love is the other song that could lend itself something having to do with profiles on a dating service for sure. It also has room for a dance off in a club at the end! (yay!)
I lean towards Lolita as the actual intention for the use of those pictures for a couple reasons. - Love has a beat that's just a little too fast and hard to have anything relating to browsing the internet. (But its great for taking place in a club, and a given with "I see you standing with your back on the wall..." "Shake that thing, cmon!"). Lolita's flow works a little better for a video that has a degree of acting and scenarios taking place. It could not be, but something with dating profiles makes me think has stuff like that taking place. - While Love has lyrics that can be applied to the concept of online dating if you thiking of it in that context, they strike me as too specific and deep. Love's lyrics seem to be for a relationship that is already *somewhat* established and familiar. Lolita's lyrics are just as applicable if you put them in that context, but the song is about someone unfamiliar, appearance, and identity misrepresentation. Actually, Lolita and Love would go well together in videos with a similar look and feel. The Love video would be a great "almostkinda" sequel to a Lolita video. But, I don't know how feel about Lolita as a single in the first place. It's a good song, and I'm really digging it. But the lyrics are pretty weak for a Prince song. I wonder if he would be criticized too much, as he is held to a higher standard. Starrfighter

First of all, I'm not even sure if we're correctly responding to what the person who started this thread was trying to say. But if they were asking what song coincides with the photos fans submitted to NPGMC to be used in a video...I'd have to go with 3121 or "Beautiful Loved and Blessed". I say "3121" because I can picture a video in which Prince is scanning through pics and profiles, deciding who he'd invite to his "3121" jam at his house. Although that idea seems kinda shallow and vain.
So my main pick would be "Beautiful, Loved, and Blessed". When you think about some of the profiles people post online, and sites like "Hot or Not", it seems like people really are looking for some sort of approval. I think this song speaks to those people. It says no matter what "U R Beautiful Loved and Blessed". Plus it would give Prince a chance to show a diverse group of people. Showing that people from all nations and every walk of life are..."beautiful Loved and Blessed". My name is Prince and I want your money

What do you mean? He started a thread to discuss which song the NPGMC member pics might be used for. At the time, the pics were stated to be used as part of a "mock online dating service" in the vid.
Did I misinterpret... is this thread about something else? Starrfighter
