It's good but not that good... There's no way he said that, that's more copies then Thriller sold in America!!!!!

Even if he did state this (which im sure he didnt) its nearly impossible to sell 30 million anymore for any artist. Some people think we buy an album when u can go to WinMX or bearshare and dl it for free? Or why not have 1 person buy it, rip into Windows Media Player and then burn it to all their friends. Times aren't what they used to be.....

The days of an artist selling 30 million copies of an album are over.We won't see mega-sellers like 'Saturday Night Fever' or 'Thriller' ever again. Those days are over.People just don't buy music like they used to.That's why so many record stores are closing.I guess we could blame it on things like illegal downloading and file-sharing,but another problem is that most of today's music just isn't very good.
but anyway...I doubt that Prince said this.Unlike MJ,he isn't too obsessed with record sales.

Yeah right. And because of that he signed with a major like universal and releases a highly commercial sounding album. [Edited 3/13/06 3:14am] [Edited 3/13/06 3:39am]

MarcelJ said: Someone do the math, how many concert giveaways would he have to do?
If each concert sold 50,000 tickets, he'd have to do 600 concerts (in the US alone), giving away acopy of 3121 to everyone who purchases a ticket. But it's more likely each concert would only sold 25,000 tickets or less (no offense but he's not Michael Jackson), so he'd have to do 1200+ concert (in the US alone) giving away a copy of 3121 to everyone who purchases a ticket. Prince is gonna be a busy, busy, little man over the next 12 months. [Edited 3/13/06 4:02am]

Every artist wants to sell records. How the fuck else do you expect them to make money. Record sales, chart activity etc. is what artists and bands count on.

id aim for 4 million worldwide , that way he would top musicology and basically every album since the symbol in 1992!

No argument there.I'm just saying that,in my opinion,I don't think that Prince is overly obsessed with selling alot of records. If he really cared about these things, don't you think he would hire a "hot" producer and ask a bunch of "hot" rappers to piss all over his tracks? In other words,he would be making his own version of 'Invincible'.To his credit,he doesn't go that route.Sure,he wants to sell records, but only on his own terms.

Yeah right. And because of that he signed with a major like universal and releases a highly commercial sounding album. I'd argue that the first single from this album ("Te Amo Corazon") wasn't exactly a surefire,radio-friendly pop single.Yes,Prince wants to sell records, but only on his own terms.

For someone who hasn't been considered a mega multi-platinum selling recording artist for the last 10 years or so by the record companies to suddenly come out and say that he wants to sell 30 million copies of his next album is either insane or lying. First of all, only 4 or 5 albums have ever sold that many copies in the history of recorded music, and it took several years (with the exception of Michael Jackson's "Thriller") for these albums to do this. "Saturday Night Fever" sold 22 million copies in its heyday, but I think it took another 10 to 15 years to reach the 30 million album plateau. The Eagles Greatest Hits Album even passed Thriller in total sales at one point, but it needed 25 years to do this. And remember that all of these sales came before there was downloading of music over the internet.
BTW, Mariah Carey had the biggest-selling album of 2005 when "The Emancipation of Mimi" sold 5 million copies. Remember that only six years ago, second-rate boy bands and teen starlet singers were selling 5 million copies of their albums before they faded into obscurity. I even think O-Town sold that many copies of their album, and they were manufactured on TV before American Idol came out. Anyway, if an artist has huge as Mariah is proclaimed as the biggest-selling artist ater selling just barely 5 million copies, how in the world is someone going to sell 30 million copies? It's just not going to happen in this day and age.

or 3,000,000 people on org bought 10 copies.... w/e u get the point [Edited 3/12/06 19:17pm] too bad there's only about 300 people on the org. but if those 300 purchased a copy for every org account they have, there could be damn near 30 million in sales.
