Complete the phrase: "3121 is the best Prince album since..."

Symbol.

This may change drastically but at the moment 3121 strikes me as the most consistently enjoyable and even Prince album since Symbol. Sure, there have been some outstanding tracks since Symbol; but for me, nothing that hangs together so well.

Of course, 3121 is lacking the 1 or 2 ABSOLUTELY KILLER cuts required of a truly great album; but 'Love' and 'The Word' and even 'The Dance' are getting there and I'm liking them more with each hit. So, after years of wondering if I could ever truly like a Prince album again - here's the one I've been waiting for.

Well, that's how I feel today, anyway.

So, come on, play the game: "3121 is the best Prince album since..."

Woah no way! TGE and Rainbow Chillen both are much better than 3121.

However, 3121 is the best Prince album since The Rainbow Children, in my book.

Well, I don't rate 3121 as highly as TGE or TRC so I'd have to say it's his best album since Musicology!!!!

I do really like the album though, I just reckon there's far more passion in the aforementioned two.
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

that's the problem, JPW - i don't much like TGE and i heartily dislike the rainbow children. i know i'm not alone - but of course both the albums you mentioned have huge followings.

Hmm. That's how I felt 2 days ago too. What's wrong with me? I'm not usually anywhere *near* this enthusiastic for Prince's new work. It must be the album. I (whisper it) like it!

but like many people here i've heard it and have an opinion on it. there are threads around where people - a lot of people - are voting for their favourite songs on the album. so, um, it's not like it's hypothetical or anything, mickg. of course, if the album that's eventually released is different from what's been leaked, then it sort of makes threads like these look a bit silly.

however, it's my firm opinion that the released album will be note-for-note the same as the album many of us are already listening to.

best album since The Rainbow Children, but post '88 the only great albums like 3121 have been:

The Gold Experience
Emancipation
The Rainbow Children
The Truth
One Nite Alone
3121

agreed.
I think TRC is the best P album since Lovesexy, that said, I think 3121 is the best, since well, TRC.
A few of my "casual" prince fans heard it last night and flipped out on how good 3121 was. Take that for what it's worth but it struck a nerve. Which, I don't think, most P albums have done in a very long time.

"Lovesexy."

I like "3121" better than any Prince album released since, with the exception of "The Black Album" (which is a unique situation obviously). "3121" is quickly reaching CLASSIC status for me.

Peace, David

TGE

Without a doubt. TRC and The Truth might come close but this is a classic.

The Gold Experience.

I liked Emancipation, TRC and Musicology (i liked that one a lot) but not like this. It's the first time since TGE that I liked the songs instantly without having it grow on me too much. 3121 is rapidly become one of my absolute favorites.

Best album since 'The Rainbow Children' I think.

'Musicology' was good but not consistent enough, few killer trax but . .

'3121' restores the magic and I cant stop listening to it, its on its 3rd run of the day right now !!
It has killer trax that even my non-Prince liking friends are digging !

I haven't dug a Prince Cd like this for a LONG LONG time !!!!

LONG LIVE '3121' . . . Bring on the 'live' shows !!
