Get On the Boat is GREAT!! Possibly prince's funkiest song of all time! why all the dissin' it's a mix of Prettyman/The Work/Musicology and Everlasting Now but better than all 4! The hornz in this song at the beggining are better than any hornz in ANY Prince song!
This shit is hot! i had my funk face on my way to school 2day listening 2 it on my MP3 player... this shit STINKS!!

Lyrics Please? News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

sorry to disagree but to me this is SUPER-BLAND, tired-ass, by the numbers horn-funk.
I've listened to the album many times in the last few days and i like/love all the other songs to verying degrees (a couple with minor reservations), but for the life of me i can't bring myself to like the steaming turd that is Get On The Boat. the only part i can agree in goldendloves statement is "this shit STINKS", but i'm guessing we both mean that in polar opposite ways. I've even listened to it an extra few times in the hope i could enjoy it, but to me it's just by-the-numbers big band bullshit. It's not the sort of great album closer 3121 deserved, and the album suffers because of it. Sorry, just one person's opinion.... but in spite of the fact that i think the album suffers because of this out-of-place jam, i'm willing to admit that i imagine it will probably make a good live dvd track (wouldn't of been at all out of place on the live aladdin vegas dvd). Just doesn't belong on 3121

I think it's ok, but my least fav on 3121, it's in the same style as Prettyman, The Work, Musicology, but compared 2 those it would be a filler track on an album of those or songs in that style.

I agree with the OP.
Sure is the patented Prince funk jam(tm), but this one has better lyrics than most of them. Unlike Musicology and The Work, its got a hook that works, especially the "we got room for 100 more" part

co-sign. P should have bought the beat at the end of this joint out a lil louder in the mix , just like 'Fury''s guitars are lost in the mix on the studio version. Thank God I was able to get an mp3 of the 'SNL Fury live' version! Still something is missing on 'Get On The Boat'. Don't u want to come , 3121. It's gonna be so much fun, 3121. That's where the party be, 3121. Y'all can come if u want to, but u can never leave!

I think it's a fairly vapid tune compared to the majority of the tracks coming before. The biggest problem with it is that it's simply not a good album closer, imo.

I like it. It's a JB-inspired funk song that's actually catchy. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I have to say I think Get on the Boat is great and better than The Work and Pretty Man. I don't like those two because Prince IMO sounds like an old man imitating JB. They both put a bad taste in my mouth. "Boat" is still JBish but with more life and energy. I like that it ends the CD. We haven't had an uptempo song end a Prince CD in a while. [Edited 3/10/06 19:14pm] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

[Edited 3/10/06 19:14pm] That's actually a good point. I'm glad 3121 doesn't continue the formula of a Prince album that ends with an epic ballad. It's good to switch it up sometimes. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

It's good to switch it up sometimes. Actually, how often in the last 10 years has he ended an album with an "epic ballad"... TRC is the only one that readily comes to mind. Emancipation didn't, NPS didn't. Rave Didn't...nor did Musicology.

This shit is hot! i had my funk face on my way to school 2day listening 2 it on my MP3 player... this shit STINKS!! Seriously? I have to respectfully disagree. This song would have been much better off as a b-side. I actually think its the weakest song on the album...ok,maybe tied with Incense and Candles, but still would have been better left off. We really didn't need another JB type cut after 3 straight albums with them ("Prettyman", "The Work", "Musicology").

I got nervous when I heard all these references to Prettyman/The Work/Everlasting Now etc,etc...but I was shocked to realize how cool Get on the Boat turned out. Yes it is in that JB style Prince is hooked on but it's funkier. It's not a groove-type funk jam it's just a straight up funk jam in every since of the word. Done, yes, in that JB style but not tired and played out. And I love the last couple measures of just percussion ending the song. Nice. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Was a little disappointed to this after a few listens but now it has really grown on me - I like it alot now.
Great catchy horns and a great mix of P's style mixed with JB and Santana In the end a great way for the Classic 3121 to end Oh and I really like the little outro at the end...why is this familiar?? [Edited 3/11/06 13:09pm] The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Not to single you out, but why do people do that? How does it make a difference in this case whether you've been "huge P fans from way back"? I've been a "huge P fan from way back" and I think BL&B and GotB are the weakest tracks, by far, on this disc. I think I&C is actually pretty decent.

It's going to grow on you. It's a very good sign that everybody tries so hard to pinpoint the weakest tune on this record. But you can't judge them correctly unless you take the whole hour to seat still with your headphones on and let your mind wander. Then, at some point, your mind gets back on the music and you say to yourself : "Uh-Oh !" The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
