12-inch extended mixes of the classics

The 12-inch extended versions of these tracks are incredible:

She's Always In My Hair
Controversy
Partyman

I gotta say, I think they enhance the songs so much. It's great that where the song usually comes to an end, these versions carry on and get so inventive. I think casual fans who only listen to Best Of compilations really miss out when they only hear heavily edited versions of these songs.

Controversy for example, gets so damn funky and inventive way way after the standard track would fade-out.

Same applies for Partyman - the extended version gets so much funkier than the one on the Batman LP.

I never could see the greatness behind She's Always In My Hair, but now I've got hold of the extended version I am definitely appreciating it so much more.

Other extended tracks I reckon are well worth getting hold of:

Mountains (10 minutes worth of funkiness)
Little Red Corvette (8 minutes long, bit funkier, more dancey than the original)
America (20 minutes long! never boring though, DAMN funky)
I Would Die 4 U (totally different to the original, a Revolution jam session)
I Wish U Heaven (interesting one, completely changes the song where the original used to end - very funky though, changes the bass line slightly).

My favourite of the bunch though is Controvery. I can't believe how long I've gone listening to the edit version. I could listen to this extended mix of it all day long and not get bored.

I never considered "Controversy" to be an extended mix, just the full length album version but I do like it.

I don't like "America" or "I wish u heaven" extended mixes but I am the minority.

I really like:

Let's work
Little red Corvette
Pop life (both US and UK versions)
Paisley park
Anotherloverholenyohead
Scandalous
The future
Thieves in the temple
My name is Prince
I hate u
Face down
Another lonely Christmas
Hello

and many others

the version of "controversy" that's on the album isn't extended, it's just the full album version.

This is actually the album track, so full-length rather than extended - You should get yourself some of the albums as they often contain lengthy versions - When Doves Cry on PR and Adore on SOTT being two examples.

snigger

and what about the kiss (extended version)... '10 toes goin' up, 10 toes goin' down' and 'didnt u see prince on television last night, isnt he the strangest lookin thing u ever seen or what...'
and hello 12" is also one of my faves.
and i wish u heaven. i think the last 10 minutes of america are just sublime...
i think the partyman (purple party mix) is tops imo
and housequake (7minutes moquake)

i think it was the 12 inch versions that got me so heavily into PRINCE in the 1st place...

I was so disappointed when the B-sides CD didn't have the full versions of the B-sides...what was that all about? If he released a CD of nothing but full versions of all the B-sides, I'd buy 2.....
He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.
