well, if music would be "free" at all, would be nice, but there won't be music recorded anymore since all the musicians pass away due to hunger.

oh really-enlighten me.what was he talking about?

"music should be free"-its quite hard not to quote that out of context isnt it?

somehow i dont think prince will be starving and signing on just yet.

i love princes music but since he started doing interviews he is so utterly contradictatory

I think it should. Believe me that musicians make more than enough with live performing only. The less known musicians practicly only make living performing. And someone like Prince easily makes 500.000$ a concert, so you see they are just greedy.
What do you need like 600.000.000$ for?
I think it's just hypocrite giving maybe 1.000.000$ to charity so everybody thinks what a wonderful person you are and keeping 400.000.000$ in the bank.

Free from the restictions and red tape of record companies. He was refering to
his wish to release whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, in whatever form
he wanted, and if WB didn't wanna put it out, then he should be free to do it
himself. He was talking about the fact that if his record company saw fit to
NOT release something, he couldn't legally release it. He wasn't talking about
giving his music away for everyone to download for free and pirate copies to
all their friends.

It was also made clear on the NPG operator intro on the NPG's 'Exodus'

"Well, first and foremost, U have 2 get free"

"Free?"

"U know. When it comes time 2 download your work into your fans' computers
U can't have any other contractual obligations"

Actually done a bit of math - Based on the 1986 Tour at Wembley Arena, 7000 people at £35 each - £245,000 Per night - Wembley was 3 nights which is £735,000
Plus sales of memoribila: If everyone spent £20 each that would be another £420,000 on top !!

Minus whatever: Rental of Venue / Insurance / Transport for Equipment and Staff / Staff Wages / Bands Wages / Hotels....and anything else some of the pro musicians on here can think of....Still gonna have a substantial amount left !!

If everything said from anyone's mouth is documented, chances are very slim that there will not be contradiction or appear to be contradiction. People change, people have changes of heart, people become wiser and all that stuff.

he is quiteobsessed by OWNING themasters of his recordings , and OWNING anything he is in or a part of..

so no , the slave was not about makingmusic free for people , it was about himself trying to be FREE.

i have listened to him talk a lot about black musicians through time , not owning their masters and dieing broke.

let's face it,Prince has a track record of saying things in interviews that serve his purpose at the time.
flash back to all the Musicology interviews & how he was ranting about "real musicians, real instruments..blah..blah...etc...
listen to the 3121 album and behold another glaring contradiction.
I have been programmed to take most things the brotha says with a huge mountain of salt.when I was 13 it was amusing and mysterious.now it just comes off as bullshit.

Yeah, talk about trying to justify having downloaded the album for free!

"Yes, officer, I do have an illegal copy of Prince's new album, but from an obscure interview he did a decade ago, I managed to take a short statement about 'freeing the music' out of context and that therefore justifies my having this album for free..."
