Kid friendly Prince music.

Has this been done before, has anyone ever compiled a tracklist of Prince songs that are positively Kid friendly and still funky? I'm think about the ages 4 - 13, which is young enough to still be innocent but are the prime years for learning. What does everyone think about this, can we make up at least two albums worth of music with no cursing, blatant sexuality or the over the head politics? Give it a try.

"Paisley Park"

And if these songs aren't particularly "funky" They are well-written and whimsical...which is important to.

Nice choices so far, when the lists are long enough I'll add them to the original post, danke! One more thing, you are allowed to alter the lyrics just enough to make it clean without changing the meaning of the song. Carry on.

Funny, this very thing has been on my mind. Over the weekend I witnessed 3 children fall in love with a 3121 song (2 had never heard him before). They all declared that they were the bigger fan (that was cute).

I wished there were a CD of his songs I could get for each of them.
Especially songs like The Word that's the one they loved most.

I will check the lyrics of both these. A Prince CD is probably not the kind of gift a parent expects their child to receive so they will probably put it under scrutiny, at first.

"Good Love" is so upbeat and fun, I imagine that it would work well on a cd for kids. "Make Your Mamma Happy", "Trust", "Party Man" and "Don't Talk 2 Strangers" would probably fit too.

My little cousins always loved 7. My friend's kid always stopped what he was doing when the "holy river" video came on (he was about 2 years old at the time). Plus kids like Batman so they would get a kick out the batdance video.

Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do, Tangerine, and Don't Talk to Strangers. Those are kinda mellow but they are pretty kid friendly. And I think maybe I Would Die 4 U would be okay. But hey I was listening to Darling Nikki and Head at 4 lol Oh yeah and what about The Cross or Starfish and Coffee. I mean he did do a version of Starfish for the Muppets Tonight show. wink

I thought that album was already made.

It is known as Musicology.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

Starfish and Coffee
Sweet Baby
Purple Rain
Free
America
Make Your Mama Happy
Same December
Into the Light/I WIll
Race
Get Yo Groove On
La La La Means I Love You
Betcha By Golly Wow
The Holy River
The Most Beautiful Girl in the World
Musicology
The Everlasting Now
Young and Beautiful (for an older kid)
Baby I'm a Star

My son also loved Endorphin Machine when he was young and I could sing "Look at this BROTHER next to me, frontin' more BOOGIE than a Moog got keys, MAN if I don't get there..."

And 9-year-old daughter thinks "Housequake" is the greatest song ever written, but I had to dub out the two "bull***"'s in the song.

It's all kid friendly as far as I'm concerned.

Who better to enjoy, at it's most puerile level, the naughty lyrics of something like 'Jack U Off'?

It should be required listening for all 8 year olds. yay!
