i dont mind either version.
I think the 81 version tidied up a bit would have been perfect for Controversy.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

The'81 demo rules. Punky funky shit! He messed it up on GB, just like he messed up Can't Stop This Feeling I Got and We Can Funk when compared to the demos. while i'm at it that horrible segue into Joy In Repetition was utterly pants too.

After you've heard the original version the released version starts sounding a lot better too. I think that's one of Prince's problems - he'll remix/redo an older track but doesn't keep in mind that the audience hasn't really heard the starting point and perhaps can't fathom the end-product's appeal.

You realise you have just come up with an amazing idea that Prince could do something truely awesome with?!
Unreleased songs from the vault, that may or may not have made their way in2 fans hands... Hows this for a unique idea for a 2-disk cd: Disk 1 is the original demo/versions that he recorded back when (tracks from 5, 10, 20 or 25 years ago) and disk 2 being his current take on them now.
Listening to the 2 versions of TTB shows how the song has evolved (good or bad according to each individuals taste). A 2-cd set like this is a great way to release stuff from the vaults (that many may/may not have in boot form and maybe love) that finally gets to see ther light of day, and then his current/final version where he gets to do it in the here and now - i think it's a great idea! Thoughts any1??
smile
(though i'm guessing prince would entertain the notion for a second - hench, pointless idea) neutral

Never heard the demo, but the GB version is truely inspired. One of the last times he came up with a totally new sound.

does the original also have the Hendrix beat?

oh no....
its punky and funky and a whole lot faster, very chaotic, spontaneous and just down right dirty.
Its bloody great.

Yeah, there is an '81 version. It's very stripped down and "punk rockish".I heard a rumor that,at one point,it was intended for the Vanity 6 album, but I don't know if that's true.

It's intteresting that much of the "Graffiti Bridge" album is made up of songs that had been recorded several years earlier ("We Can Funk","Joy In Repetition","Can't Stop This Feeling I Got","Tick Tick Bang").In some cases, the earlier versions are better.

One of the badest songs on GB. I don't like it. Just like "Can't stop this feeling I got", "Shake" & "Release it" . neutral
