Question...Do we really love princes music or is it prince that we love so much ???I have had 2131 for two days and I cant say im tired of it...I just would rather listen to some real oldschool funk or classic glam rock or soul...even classic prince...anything other than 3121...or anything else he's made in the last 10 years or more...Of course we all love prince but...can we honestly say anything he has done since the 80's is as funky as head..? or lets work ??? Housequake ??? hell...even sexy dancer....has any singles been as OBVIOUS and superbad as KISS ? When doves cry or Sign o the times ?? has there been any better pop songs than 1999 ..little red corvette ...take me with you...or raspberry beret...? has there been any better soul ballads than do me baby...adore ...scandalous...or the beautiful ones ? U get my point...I could go on and on...what im trying to say is...Do we Love Prince or Princes music at this point ??? to me...He is a part of my DNA I love him and I MUST see him live whenever he tours....He is one of the funkiest of all times...and all around he's the man...but, I cant imagine him topping or even doing something equal to what he's done already....

I'm definitely into the music more than the man. I haven't liked the last few albums, with the exception of TRC, anywhere near as much as his classic stuff, but I still find enough that I like to keep me buying his records. If it were only about the man I'd have stopped being a fan long ago.

I'm not bothered at all by the man, I love the music. Obviously though, you can't have one without hte other but for me, the focus is the music.

The fact is: prince has so many great songs that it is almost imposable for him to blow us all away with something new. He has done it too many times before. Like he said in "Don't Play Me" he has to compete with all his other stuff. And that is HARD to do even for Prince. Not that he is not as good... but against his catalog a new album has a tough row to hoe. So to speak.

We also have to understand that many of us grew up on prince... so some songs or time periods have more impact because they carry with them memories (good bad and ugly) of our past. To this day some songs bring back all kinds of memories. So those songs have more of an impact than others can ever hope to have.

I've never ever thought his 80's stuff appealed to me more! All of his albums seem to have 2-3 winners and the rest are slow warmers. Now, if I include the rest of the world in my perception, then his 80's albums are much more relevant and attached to emotions that are connected by chance to circumstances and friends of that time.

In my own isolated bubble of emotion, I can remember my impressions of all his 80's stuff when I listened to it, and it was not a greater impression, by any means, then that from his new stuff on a song by song basis.

But as a whole, I do think his concepts for albums seemed more interesting in the 80's. concepts = The fabric and lingo he invented to try to tie the songs together.

i agree: as we get older things mean less to us. it is like how time goes by faster now... or how birthdays are no big deal... we have had them... we have all (i hope) been so excited by a new prince album we were about to go nuts. we apply more meaning to some songs that others. (and i say prince songs but i mean all music). So here is this new song/album that has to compeate not only with what is out there today but the whole of our life's experinces... so it should be no big shock when we are let down by a given project.

I definitely look forward to the new music and listen more to his more recent music than old. I cant remember the last time I put on Sign..or Purple Rain ..I have heard the songs so many times in the eighties and thru the early nineties, that right now I listen more to anything new I can get my hands on. I haven heard the 3121 album yet, but after hearing BS,Fury and BLB, I cannot wait to hear the rest of the album and will probably listen the 3121 for the rest of the year. I dig all of his music and I dont really compare or critique it,,each album is an experience of it's own and each has a few strong tracks or weaker tracks...but even his weak tracks are better than the crap I here on the radio. Needless to say, I have read the reviews posted for 3121 and I think some folks just expect more from P than others do. I am happy with each album and who am I to say what is better or not, I cant even play a single instrument.
I just downloaded the Slaughter House (finally) and Im diggin the tracks on that. I dont compare them to any past albums, except to compare similarities in sound, not necessarily comparing which is better. DIG? Ive been a fam since I was 13,and I am currently 35--eye aint no newbie. And it is the music I dig, but the music makes me dig the man, as I only know the man thru his music.

Beacuse i do not have to. they are part of me. it is like from the movie Shawshank Redemption when Andy gets put in the hole for playing Mozart. when he got out he tells his frieds he had Mr> mozart there to keep him company. not the recoreds but in his head.

I do that all the time. when i was in the Army i would RUN to lovesexy... i would just play it in my head and it was just perfect for a 13 min 2 mile.

Yeah, we tend to have high expectations of Prince -- he's a master musician, but no matter... as long as he gives me something enjoyable once in awhile, that's cool. Songs like "Love" and "The Word" will keep me going for a LONG time! Plus, there's a whole other world of art out there to enjoy. Prince ain't the end-all and be-all, no matter what he might think. or for that matter, what we might think.

I only want him for the music. I'm sure he's a nice guy and all, But i'm not hardly interested in his personal life. That's his business. That's why it kills me when people on here ask about his house, how much his gas bill was, when him and Te'-te' are getting back together and shit like that. Unless he puts it in the muzac, I don't think it's any of our business.

Imma say I love Prince more than I love his music. It wasn't always that way. I have been a fan for over 23 or so years. But he is more fascinating to me than any music he has done in the last decade.

his life, his women and what brand of toothpaste or fabric softener or hair grease he uses interests me. sorry if that puts you purists off. i wanna know what he smells like and whatnot. it has nothing to do with me feeling like i am entitled to know these things. i just want to know. everybody wants to know stuff that ain't necessarily their right to know sometimes.
his music (new stuff) is pretty much lost on me now. it's more fun thinking of reasons to dislike his stuff than it is to actually sit and listen to it lately.
i haven't heard 3121 but i hope it's good. if i like it, maybe i'll wanna know whether or not he cuts his own fingernails or whether he has ever coughed so much that he peed a little.

The music, 100%. I get the feeling he's not a nice person and too often comes across as a prat.

Prince's music has been in my life now 4 over half of it.I will always have an interest in his music until I myself r gone.I grew up through some ackward times and ages and always had his music on hand 2 help me through when i was younger.Hell,even the influence of his music turmed me in2 the wannabee musician I am today.His material from say 95 2 present day may not have the masses gasping in adoration but 4 folk like me,well I have explained above.I will always appreciate the effect his music had on my life and the least I feel I can do as a lifelong fan is 2 always support him and watch his career take its path with great interest and admiration as 4 the man keep on keepin' on
