however, (and believe me i know i'm an utter ass for my vindictive attacks on larry and tina graham), i don't like what seems to have happened at the park. i had a friend who worked there who quit. mind you, i don't know the entire story but from what i've been able to gather the JW religion and those who promulgate it have devoured some of the freedom of thought which used to exist at the park. and to me paisley park used to be ABOUT freedom and unity despite differences. now, it seems that an 'either you're with us, or you're against us' mentality prevails at the park. so, i don't think i'll attend next year's celebration, or else i'll attend only a couple of nights if that's possible. as far as my membership, i do want to support prince's freedom fight against the corporate world, but i don't want to inadvertently support the JW cause. i'd rather donate the money to something i believe in. and, i don't wish to be nasty or judgemental about another person's religion, but the teachings of the JWs truly contradict what i hold to be true and what i've learned through personal experience. so, i really don't know right now I really understand what you're saying. It really seems like a lot of people are feeling the same way as you, as of late. Personally, if I were to join the club, which I will do next year, I'm not really concerned where the money goes, because I'm not donating it to anything. He can do what he likes with the money, because after I give it to him, it's his to do with what he wants. lol. Since I wasn't at the celebration or any concerts, I really don't have any opinion of Prince, Larry, or the PP staff. I dig the music of Larry and Prince, and that's pretty much the extent of it. I admire them for what they've accomplished in this life. With you personally having experiences in this situation, I can understand your take on things. You've got to be true to you and how you feel.

Wonderfully stated and agreed! My only concern is that he isn't getting any kind of diverse spiritual input. I have found as a Christian that my non-Christian friends have taught me MORE about Christianity and myself than my Christian ones. Certainly, those who share my beliefs are there to support me and offer me some guidance, but if Prince really wants to follow Jesus, he should be hanging out with the "tax collectors, prostitutes and lepers" as he did. hey moonbeam... i'd venture to say tho that there are probably a great many tax collector/prostitute/leper types hanging around prince...
i don't think jesus was looking for guidance from them, tho. he merely treated them decently, like human beings, unlike the pharisees and other jewish religious leaders who lorded it over the common people and referred to them literally as dirt. jesus offered friendship and spiritual guidance. these people wanted to change their lives for the better & jesus was willing to help them. no christians can be as good as jesus but still we can help people if we go about it in a non self-righteous way (or we'll end up like those pharisees)... i think prince is doing all right in this regard. he certainly is provoking discussion. | |

Prince struggles to feel content in his life for years. He is unable to put out in his music his total ideas on God etc, for fear of not being accepted. Earlier on this thread I said that I was getting tired of all the JW talk coming from Prince. But then I thought about that and realized; I'm not tired of this coming from Prince because it hasn't happened that much. What I'm tired of is coming to the org and everyone arguing about one little statement he might've said in a concert. The reason we're all sick of it, is because we feel the need to discuss it all the time because a couple of people want us to feel offended about it like they do. | |
