Lolita: The new Brick House?

Everytime I hear Lolita I'm reminded of Brickhouse. This is a good thing.

This would have been a KILLER first single, as everybody I've previewed this song to loves it.

I think it's the worst song on 3121, so not "everyone" loves this one.

"Everyone I previewed this song to" does love that song. I wouldn't claim EVERYBODY loves that song. Not everybody loves Brick House too, so...

This song sounds like the promo to an NBA Game -- imagine hearing, "and now, the San Antonio Spurs....." when the song begins.

I'm missing something. People REALLY don't like this song? Honestly think it's the worst on the album?

Why?

I just think it's funny that a few years ago people were complaining about derivative tracks on Rave, like Hot Wit U, and there actually seem to be a sizable amount of people that like Lolita.

unless it is the same person you have no point. i thought almost all of RAVE was crap* but i kind of like 3121

* crap compared to the best of the rest of prince's other songs (which is WHY some say 3121 is not that great... because we at least on some level compare it to the best of (well at least our favorites) the rest of his songs. So what chance dose a sone like Lolita have against the rest of his music?

I dunno. When I was trying to play the synthline to Lolita, I found it very easy to switch back and forth between it and the bassline to Brick House. And the drumming is that funky drumming, and the lyrics are almost a homage to BH in that BH was about how hot a girl looks, and this song is about how hot a girl looks, but he's keeping his dick in his pants.

*shrug*

It's irrelevant whether it was the same person (people actually) or not... there seems to be a semi-sizable tide that's turned in the last 6 years between a majority not wanting Prince to redo himself vs those that are now enjoying it.

There's always that fine balance between people that wish Prince sounded more like he did in the 80's vs those that wish he was more progressive. It just seems to me that the tide has turned a bit with this album, and this track in particular.
