I usually like Prince's camille type stuff, but the title track sounds like a dragged out interlude to me, kinda boring.

It reminded me of "Sadomasochistic Groove", actually...

I just heard it. 3121 the song, is such a disapointment I find myself hoping that it is a fake. I know that is unrealisitc that someone might be able to pull of such a clever trick as to put out a fake song that sounds like prince two weeks before the album comes out. But this is the last bit of hope I have.
It would seem that prince looked at back catalogues of his music and pulled out stuff he thought people liked and then did a frankenstine. I hope the album is better then the title song. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

I love it. It's very late-Parliament-high-tech-funk-ish. "Pedro offers you his protection."

Hmmm, I really love this one now. It's more simple than simple, but its simplicity just feels right somehow. It kinda pulls you into some futuristic fantasy cosmic funky lo-fi strange dream.
I looooove those wonderfully fake synth horns in the middle of it. I just dig the way he sings "chocolate handels. Sounds a little like an unusual note there. Hooray for this one for me!

Hmmmm...3121 the brother of Crystal ball. This song sounds old to me. Don't get me wrong I like it but it dosen't sound current? Almost like he pulled it out of the vault. "The little 1 will escort u 2 the places within ur mind"

It's really similar to Days of Wild, but except for the that both songs, Crystal Ball and this one, have Camille-like vocals, they both really have nothing in commmon at all.
It does not sound like anything he has done more recently, but that doesn't mean it's not new.

The problem is the album isn't as good as the title song. I hope and have to say I think you must be wrong. I understand and so should everyone that "good" is perspctive biased. I have heard other songs that were better then the title song already. Oh well. Rip Prince. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.

This is a thread about the song, not the album. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.

It's probably my favourite on the album. It got me in straight away. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

This is the old prince as far as I'm concerned. An album like this would be a dream come true for me.
The one we got is great tho'. "What a lovely fat beat with a zompige baslijn"

This song reminds me of the Undertaker. Good feel over all. Not his best but better then some of the songs he has released of late.

Who said it sounded like 'I Wonder' ? -- I can hear it totally.
I mean the track is OK I s'pose, I can see why people would liking it, but just like 'What Do You Want Me 2 Do', a few new versions of old tricks doesn't impress me. The song still sounds like something from NPS/High-era. It's kinda close to something you might have heard from the Batman era - that sparse electronic sound, just that little bit lacking in melody to be memorable or hummable.

NouveauDance said: The song still sounds like something from NPS/High-era. I can see what you mean, but I think it far superior over most of that period. It just tries to be a nasty, deep, kinda freaky, hypnotic groove and that's totally what it is. I bet the walls of Paisley Park or where ever he recorded it were shaking that night.

This fits in to the Black Album period for me. Could be right on that album, except the lyrics. "What a lovely fat beat with a zompige baslijn"

My vote for funkiest lyric ever, "My bed's a coffin, dracula ain't got shit on me My nickname's hell's-a-poppin', I'm badder than the wicked witch I got a gold tooth, costs more than your house. I got a diamond ring on four fingers, each one the size of a mouse." That first line is the funkiest shit ever! "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"

I think he wrote 3121 the song originally to be on the black album, then forgot about it the next day he wrote it....and just woke up last year and remembered it .....i love it " Soaked in banana cologne
No wonder you're all alone It's written all over your face You're just-a rock hard in a funky place "

Snap said: I wonder how many of you all will still like this song after you figure out what the lyrics mean. But you still like "Let's Go Crazy," right? Same theme -- different take.
whats your take? | |

It's an interesting, effective album opener, imo. There's been a lot of references made to Crystall Ball and Camile on this one but the track as a whole doesn't really catch the feel of either one. Instead, this takes me back to 1995 and the Exodus album. I have no problem seeing it snuggled up right next to "Big Fun" on that album. The voice, also, reminds me less of Camille and more of the one used on Dream Factory.
