biggest disappontment

Prince has done more musically than anyone could expect from one man, but he has disappointed me a couple of times, I got in to P just before "1999' was released since then I wondered what he would do when 1999 actually came, the "Rave' concert was so lame especially '1999", very disappointing, but he has more than made up for his disappointments, the other ones would be GB and Tony M ("Game Boyz), you ever been disappointed by anything hes done?

I'd mention the same things like you. Actually, there are a lot of things that I find disappointing but they don't bother me too much.

Yes, "Newpower Soul" was the first thing I was genuinely disappointed by on all aspects. The Emancipation cover art I had already despised before, but rather liked the music. There was very little to salvage NPS for me. It was a genuine sentiment of disappointment, and I think to certain extent that's still how I relate to those recordings.

NPG exodus, now that album sucked.
The songs were inspirationless and boring and Prince isn't even in there.

Around The World in a day. Back in the days when I was start to like a Prince a lot, I watched Purple Rain on TV and I really love the music. And two weeks later whilst I was at the library searching for Purple Rain or any other Prince cdd, I happened to ran across ATWIAD cassette. I was excited and thinking that the album was going to be another Purple Rain until I played the album on my cassette player. I was like WTF is this shit??? But over the years I came to appreciated the album as a way of Prince showcasing his true talent, still that album is one of my least play ones and I bought the album just to fulfill my Prince collection.

And also another disappointment is Emanicipation. When my radio station played Betcha Golly Now and Somebody Somebody I really like those songs and I thought Emancipation was going to be a great 3 cd album but I was very disappointed by the outcome. Thank Goddess I rented the cd from the library and I didnt have to waste my money.

Emancipation. I would rather listen to ANY other Prince album than those 3 discs of pooptoast

I would also add Graffiti Bridge (the movie), except I was duley warned by the org that it sucked...so I wasn't disappointed when it did. lol

Emacipation easily. After the great songs and production on "The gold experience" he came up with this collection of mostly filler material. Of course there are some very good songs on it but most of the material and the production sucked big time. You couldn´t hear Kate Bush on "My computer" and the song that was directed at Wendy and Lisa "In this bed i scream" was crap too. And it was announced as "The record Prince was born to make".
I was really looking forward to this record and felt let down when I heard it.

Emancipation was almost the end for me. He'd said it was the album he was born to make, and that he'd put his heart and soul into it. I rushed out on the day of release, bought a copy, dashed back to work and sat in a quiet corner listening to what I could in the remains of my lunch hour. What I heard was completely devoid of soul and passion, three disks of plastic music, only two songs standing out from an ocean of dross ("Slave" and "The Holy River".) I emerged from my corner ashen faced. "Well?" asked my boss, who knew how much of a fan I was. "I don't think I'm a Prince fan anymore," I replied.

What kept me "in"? The memories of the good times. "Emancipation" has been the lowest moment for me since I discovered Prince back in '84.

I was disappointed with The Black Album when it was officially released.

I think the HYPE of the bootleg had gotten to me, and when it finally came out i was expecting this nice professional production quality and sound.

Hell I think I had better bootlegs than the official release.

lol

but over time The Black Album has become one of my favs.

I Think Its His Darkhorse Masterpiece.

Emancipation was the album i took the longest to embrace...but once i did i found some reaaaaallllly great material on it (Maybe cuz it was just sitting there all paid for and i knew it would be mine to accept)

But...as i've heard from others on here..it should've been cut down considerably. First of all betcha by golly wow. Goddamn he brought nothing new to it, and frankly if i wanted to hear it, i'd rather the original. I don't know, but i like Prince for his own style.

I do like his live covers in concert, but lets keep away fr. sappy remakes, please.

I still have not given New Power Soul a second listen, so i guess thats the biggest disappointment.

biggest disappointment was when the SOTT tour didnt come to the States, that totally sucked.
later on, Emancipation was a semi disappointment (but 1 disc would have been awesome)...
but New Power Soul made me want to throw in the towel.

On the flip side, Black Sweat and Fury have been incredible surprises, cant wait for 3121.

I've had a few of them.

1. Parade: it was my first Prince album and I was so sure it was going to be like the stuff I had heard from Purple Rain thanks to Kiss but nothing else sounded like Kiss on it. Now it's one of my absolute favorites.

2. Grafitti Bridge, the movie: The first Prince project I didn't like at all. Hot garbage. Nuff said.

3. Emancipation: I brought Gold Experience and Emancipation at the same time and while I was blown away by GE, Emancipation disappointed me because it didn't have the same type of fire TGE had, especially as it was his first CD as an independent.

4. NewPowerSoul: NPS remains the only Prince CD that I have that have songs on it that I haven't listened to since the day I brought it.

5: Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic: I liked it at first but it was in hearing it almost 6 months later that I discovered that it wasn't as good as I thought it was and that really bothered me. I almost dropped Prince because of it. 2 bad albums in a row.

I hope it ends right there cause it's been pretty good since then.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I know alot of people like it, but "The Rainbow children" was disappointng to me. In fact I like "Chaos and Disorder" better. "1999, The new master" was also disapointing. I understand why he did it, but it was uncessary.

I forgot about that one (gee I wonder why?). I was damn near horrified by 1999:TNM. I never thought Prince would EVER butcher up his own song and a classic at that. I haven't listened to it since well, 1999! Man, 1999 should have been Prince's year for obvious reasons but that was just one year I'd like to forget from the man. Pitiful I tell ya.

"Emancipation" because a 3-cd set @ the time was a dream come true; then to get THAT sound that was a big backwards step...."the album he was born to make" (?)

"Rave un2 the Joy Fantastic" was the straw that broke the back because here he was hyping this album, like he did with "Emancipation", in ways he never gave to previous albums and "Rave" was a total dog! Ever since "Rave" I have bought P albums out of loyalty, not enthusiasm like the past. However, things HAVE gotten better since "Rave".

eek Disappointed b/c it leaked, or disappointed b/c of what you heard? (I'm scared that your answer will be the latter.)
