A Brotha Gettin' Down Here Lately "When U Love Somebody" from NPS is yet another song that has grown on me. Actually I never disliked it, I simply didn't pay it much attention. Then it hit me and I've been spinning it a lot lately.
It reminds me of "In This Bed I Scream" and "The Continental" in style and structure for some reason. Even the funky rap breakdown is cool, hence the title of the thread. I just can't figure out why Prince would mix great songs like this, "Come On", "Wasted Kisses" and a few others with other truly mediocre material such as "Push It Up", ect. I know I'm not the only one who loves this song, am I?

I really wouldn't have seen how it would remind anyone of "In This Bed I Scream" before you pointed that out. First I thought "What the hell? In This Bed I Scream??!", but after a few moments of pondering over it I can udnerstand what you are referring to.
The resemblance to "The Continental" I am still failing to see, though.

The resemblance to "The Continental" I am still failing to see, though. Yeah, I can't quite figue out why I relate those two songs either. It's pobably just the way the breakdown in both songs lead to entirly different compositions. Still, it reminds me more of "In This Bed I Scream" because of the guitars buried in the background and especially the sructure of the verses.

Love the whole album, although it's not one of the strongest tracks.

I like it, even though it qualifies as a shitty Prince song

I can see where the comparison to In This Bed Ice-Cream comes from.

Surprised this song doesn't get more mentions yeah. It's a classic Prince tune in so much as it ticks all the boxes you expect. Not to say it's one of his best, just enjoyable. As I find the whole of NPS to be. Glug, glug like a mug

I LOVE THIS SONG!!! The horns just sound great and generally make U want to move. Such an underrated song, but so beautiful.

Yes! The horns are killer in this song... "Don't stop the pounds...cause' a brotha's gettin' down here lately" in other words... "Don't stop paying me with euro's, cause this little brotha is STILL getting down" Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
