Is Prince a fan of...

NIN? I don't think he is with Trent being a satanist and all and the fact that Trent's produced many "dark" sounding songs that I can't picture Prince listening to, but I mean, Trent does thank Prince in the booklet for Pretty Hate Machine (one of the mods here pointed that out... forget who though), but I'm not too sure if Trent is a big fan of P either.

Does anyone know if they are fans of each other's music or if P even knows who Trent Reznor is?

In 1994, Trent was interviewed by Select magazine and related the whole sorry tale thus:

"I'll tell you a funny story about Prince. I was in this studio and I heard Prince was coming in. There was a time I thought he was awesome, but what a fucking creep! The rules were, you were never to say the word 'Prince', you had to write down that symbol. You were never to look at him, or talk to him unless he approached you first, shit like that. So he shows up in a limo, wearing a fluorescent pink jumpsuit, giant hair, a cane, huge heels and a lollipop."

[He imitates Prince in heels trying to jive walk a four foot frame. It's funny.]

"And he's wearing the worst women's perfume you've ever smelt. So he's got two giant bodyguards with him and there was nobody there who was gonna fuck with him. It turns out he wanted us to remix a track and make it harder--apparently he had Broken in his car for a long time. So then I see him at the other end of this hundred yard corridor, and there's only me and him walking towards each other. So we're getting closer, closer and...he walks right past me. I couldn't believe it, I don't care who you are, that's bullshit."
- Trent Reznor

Trent is a big fan of Prince's work overall, and usually takes in at least one show of a tour time permitting. I just think he can't be doing with the whole 'ego trip' bollocks, and who can blame him?

If you can track down the English release of 'Head Like a Hole' (1991), Trent did a great remix that sampled 'Tamborine' and 'Release It. And finally, the track that Prince apparently wanted Trent to remix was 'Loose!'.

PS: Trent's not a Satanist.

No clue on what Prince thinks of Trent or NIN, but Trent is a fan of P.'s work, even if he thinks Prince himself is a twat.

Prince is a fucking dickhead.

I lost respect for him many years ago due to shit like this - and since 1990 or so he hasn't had the music to back this bullshit up.

Note, this is about the same time Madonna was acting like a stupid cunt too. Must be a superstar midlife crisis kind of trip. Get over it, has-beens

That's awesome. Thanks for that info. I didn't know Trent was even supposed to remix Loose so that's pretty interesting. And I guess maybe he's not a satanist from the number of you saying he's not, but I just couldn't picture P listening to a lot of music that had this kind of animosity towards God... ex: "Heresy", especially with the way he is nowadays.

There's a big difference between animosity towards God and animosity towards religion or religious authorities. Learn to tell the difference, then ask yourself again if Prince -someone who's called out religious authorities for their bullshit before -would have a problem with a song like Heresy.

I know that, but like I said, either way I couldn't see Prince listening to music that has such an animosity towards god, towards religion, towards the church, whatever. Satanism isn't devil worship. It's worship in self and the belief that we are our own gods and we make our own lives out to what we make them to be and Trent is obviously this. Satanism is really just a term and to who ever said it, Trent may be a Christian, but that doesn't mean you have to be a devout Christian or even follow or agree everything the church has to say.

I always thought the song "Had u" from "Chaos and disorder" sounded like something NIN would do.

really? I wasn't a fan of most of his 90's output, but I loved this song. To me it was a throwback his Purple Rain/Around the World days, and the guitar made me think of Hendrix.

I don't think Prince is capable of getting a NIN sound, period if he can't remix "Loose!" himself. He's gotta loose that Flyte Tyme sounding crap and channel his angry self. I thought 'The Human Body' on Emancipation was kinda close.
