Burton Cummings of the Guess Who on Prince Thought I'd share with you:
Last night I had dinner with Burton Cummings and showed him the Ultimate Prince CD. He flipped and told me Prince is one of his all time favorite artist and proceeded to play "I Wanna Be your Lover" on the living room piano. Gotta say that was classic! He looked at the package and said he'd be first in line to buy it and it had all the essentials (give or take a couple tracks). For those of you who don't know who I am talking about, thi sis the lead singer of The Guess Who, who in 1970 had the #1 hit "American Woman," which Lenny Kravitz covered and dueted on with prince on on that Rave 2000 special.

Holy Prairie !
I'm a little surprised but now that I think about it, I can see why a Cummings would like Prince.

That is quite cool that Burton is a Prince fan. I often liked the feel of the guitar on "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man", and Randy Bachman's guitar playing on "She's Come Undun." They both sound jazzy. It would be nice to see Bachman play with Prince someday. As for Burton, loved his unplugged album (forget the title...but similar to One Night Alone". His he still smoking? I hope he has his voice for another tour. The Guess Who were the best band to rock the Keystone in Brandon, MB. (sorry Metallica, the Pursuit of Happiness and Midnite Oil!) merf

Where do you live. I want your job. Going out for supper with Burton, and getting the inside scoop on Prince sounds right up my alley! I wonder what Burton thinks of "American Woman" by Lenny (I was never too crazy about it, prefer the original) What was the flipside of Undun, I loved both these songs so much, but drawing a blank now merf

It's like each artist that covers these songs cheapens them a little bit more, because by now everyone from Phil Collins to Robert Palmer has reached for a song from that album when they wanted to appear socially conscious. The worst was probably the charity single that came out after 9/11, but at least they were in a hurry for a good cause.

funny thing is..I introduced Burton to Lenny. Burotn was very happy, especially when Prince & Lenny dueted on the song. and the checks keep rolling in.
