Prince has finally done it!

He's done it...after over 8 years of disappointments, just as I was at my lowest ever Prince-fanship and my highest NIN-fanship Prince has made 3121, and it is brilliant. An absolutely killer album where he's finally used electric instruments and no big band shit, where he's finally made some funk that I like! He's got it back!

Wow.

I'm with you Spooky! Not that I was disappointed for 8 years, but 3121 is fantastic. I'm so glad it leaked... makes this month, waiting for my birthday, my MacBook Pro and 3121, a lot more bearable.

No, not at all - drab and boring. Love is a killer track that puts Musicology as an album to shame. It's like Prince finally understands how to use modern instruments and fake drums.

I'm glad to hear you describe Musicology the way you just did. I completely agree.

Well then it looks like this review may not just be another fan hearing a new album and falling for the hype upon first listen.

By 8 years, I'm refering to album releases that caught the public eye; NPS, Rave and Musicology all pale when compared to this. I can tell I will be listening to this music for a long time to come, whereas with musicology it was fun for an hour then I didn't listen to it anymore.

Until I put 3121 on today, I didn't like prince and was only on this site because I have friends here. I was first and foremost a diehard NIN fan (see the sig)...but this album has changed things. It's like 2 years ago when I heard my first bootlegs...Prince suddenly became good again in my eyes. I still think Lolita sounds like a Van Halen power rock ballad though.

A friend played Fury for me and it sure didnt get me excited. It's like Endorphinemachine live vs. the studio only 10 x's worse. Is he afraid of the guitar in the studio or what? Sounded like Muzak version compared to when its live. Hope the rest of the album is better.
No hard feelings.

It's amazing, the end of "The Dance" takes you right back to "The Beautiful Ones", but dare I say that he sounds even more mad-horny-crazy-out-of-his-mind when he screams? He's still one wild mofo. And the way that song starts... drooling

This is exactly what I thought 3121 would do. Bring back those who've been so jaded by past releases. This album has such a freshness to it that's different from what I've heard from Prince in the last few years. Great stuff indeed.

Yeah, I heard all of it. It has some great guitar solos, but the driving groove is WEEEEAK. It's a pop song with some great guitar noodling and a solo, not a kick butt rock track like SNL or the Brit Awards. I swear the man could use a producer on how to make a guitar rock song. Way too overproduced and no grit.
No hard feelings.

Yeah, Love is my track as well. It's like Hot Thing for 2006. Wait, make that 2008. When I heard it last night I literally could not contain myself. Fury does sound very lame compared to the live version. I hate to say it. And I'm still not sure how cool I am with that vocoder effect on Prince's voice (Incense & Candles). After Cher, Madonna and Janet have been there... I dunno. But I don't like most tracks on a new Prince releaase anyway, it has always been that way. I'll live with Fury and Incense and Candles for a bit and report again.

Other disappointment: there isn't a 15 minute version of Black Sweat (or Love for that matter). Black Sweat doesn't ever take off for me because he didn't 15-minute it. Goddamn it.

Besides all that however, all you naysayers and asskissers (ooh such antiquated terms) should LOVE 3121.

Yeah WaterUdrink, 3121 has leaked. Look for it in your usual sources of pirate material (if you have any of course) in the next coming days.

Of course, I've pre-ordered on Amazon too. I just can't deal with a bunch of record company execs and factory workers having a Prince album before me... God Bless the Internet.

Bingo Wall. I firmly believe that with proper production but no alteration of the core song whatsoever, Fury could be an all-time great. I'm just glad I've got the SNL performance still in my library.

Bring on 3121 Special Edition! (or will that be 4232)
