Back in 84, my Grandmother and I were driving to pick up my Grandfather when "When Doves Cry" came on. I was floored when she said she liked it.
• Did you first think Prince was gay? •

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

My dad loathes religion but the only Prince song he likes (infact, adores) is The Cross. "He means it" my old man says. I suppose that's enough, in the end.

In the '80's I used to spend every Sunday with my Grandma who was then in her late 70's.I used to take a little tape recorder with me and all my Prince cassettes and we used to dance round her living room for hours-she loved it!She was a little hard of hearing so I don't know if she noticed any of the more risque lyrics! If ever I forgot my tapes she'd be really disappointed.I sure do miss her,one of a kind she was.

no my mom not only took my copy of Cont. to our pastor but when i was in HS (maybe out of school) and had already joined the ARMY she maked me listen to these tapes about the evils of rock music ("why knock Rock") it got more wrong that it did right. it said Prince has a song about raping his sister....! i told her no it is the sister that is molesting him!

My mom likes Prince a lot. I've made her many compilations over the years. And up till now, she likes everything I've put together.

The only song she DOESN'T like is 'Sister'

lol

My dad has liked Prince almost as much as I have--definitely as long. He used to go to the skating rink every weekend back in da day and LOVED when the d.j. played "Soft and Wet". When Prince brought him onstage at Musicology. . .well, I've never seen a 79 year old man so happy. excited

As for my mom--she's a pianist, so she's mainly been fascinated by P's keyboard playing.

Considering my dad thought Prince's big movie was The Color Purple, I think it's fair to say they don't even know who he is, let alone like his music. lol
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Um. My Mom likes his songs. She sings along with me sometimes. lol... she thought that Prince said, "count your blessings" instead of "controversy" in Controversy. It was funny...

My Dad had 'Dirty Mind' upon release. i was 10, i wouldn't buy my first P album til '84. he already had his first few albums, he's more up on what's going on with 'new' music than i am. He's 60 and subscribes to 'Mojo' magazine. he's always like, "Damn, you've just got to hear this band!"

lol

My mum is a big fan of Purple Rain, Alphabet St, and 7. I took her to see him at Wembley Stadium in the mid nineties, and she got all emotional and cried, sang along etc. - Dad Can't stand him.

My Mother is the reason why I love Prince. She was into him since the very beginning in 1978 and decided to share this great knowledge and music with her 2 children.

And you know what's funny, she didn't seem to mind the fact that Prince was pretty hardcore. Despite that, she still let me and my brother listen to him. shrug

My mother likes the following songs:

I Wanna Be Your Lover
Controversy
1999
When Doves Cry
Kiss

She likes those songs and knows Prince sings them (since I told her) but there are tons of songs by all artists that she likes but doesn't know who sings them. I will never forget when she was trying to get her boyfriend to go with her to see the movie "Purple Rain". She said "the new movie by Prince". He said "who's Prince". She said "He sings "Celebration"". I said "That's Kool & The Gang". lol
