Like Prince in a way, I've always been in my own world. I write music and in high school performed my original songs in talent shows. One year, in 1989, I made my own original symbol, that was projected at the end of my song on the back wall. It was of similar overall shape to Prince's symbol, the male/female with the trumpet. It was uncanny, and kind of ticked me off that Prince 'copied' me. He didn't know it though. That's my story with Prince's symbol.

Me too. After a while I had more "0(+>" signs and alternate tracklists in my papers than actual work.

People sitting next to me would always say

"What's Pussy Control"?

"Ripopgodawhat?"

I also bought one of the "0(+>" hangers at one of his concerts [not the small one but the one that's about 2 inches] and hung it from the rearview mirror in my car.

One time someone driving behind me got out of his car at a trafficlight and asked if he could buy it. Ha.

Thanx Tom. I wasnt sure what all of that symbol meant, I know it has several meanings, and now for me, a soap stone one! I like prince . Doesnt really bother me that he has used this alchemy symbol as I really like it!! Ive got a coat pin of it, goes everywhere with me! My friend got it when she saw him in London a few years ago.

I also like the symbol ,which i know first from the purple rain motorbike (as daily seen on the filmposter). I didn't care him changing his name into this symbol ofwhich i don't have a button on my keyboard. Not giving this symbol a name i found stupid.I understand his motives and so on but let it be like it more or less always was ,just name it prince.
Whether it is copied or not ,i am sorry ,i don't care. Back than on school i also used to draw the symbol ,im my notebooks, in all different kind of ways. I also sprayed it. The wheel has been invented more as once.

It seems to me that the symbol (like everything involving prince) represents the synthesis between (and removal from) the normal definitions. "Am I black or white, am I straight or gay?" can my name be a symbol...isn't it more effective to have a name the represents where and who I am, than some combination of letters my parents decided upon {i imagine him saying}. The symbol is a concise way of saying what it has taken prince a whole lifetime to say.

I did always saw a key in that symbol. It's interessant, because of the Jehova Witness matters are going around. Jehova as name has in every lenguage a kind of how do write it, or it has minimal changes make in the time. Jehova is also called Jahwee or and Yahwee and if you know a bit Spanish and you read the name, the spellform is the same if you use when you say: Llave and llave means KEY!

Peace to all!

It's cool. I like the concept. He wasn't the first though. Question Mark from Question Mark and the Mysterians (60's band) changed his name legally to ?. I like that too.

Peace,

I've always though the symbol to be a very sensual creation. Going from male to female encompassing both in a never ending circle. Infinite Unity.

Anyway, I like it. I think it's unique, just like each and every one of us.

The alchemay thing is pretty neat too if you think about it. It means Prince must do or have done some pretty interesting midnight reading.

Peace yall
