I Wish I Was more Open-minded

Frankly, I am sure I listen to Prince 75% of the time that I choose to listen to music. I bet I spend an avg of 2 hrs a day listening to music. Just tonite, I listened to both Parade and disc 2 of Emancipation. Where are the other artists in my life. Sure I enjoy the Replacements, Blue Rodeo, TPOH, the Beatles, and often get into minor stretches where I kick to the Stones, but for the mostpart, it is back to that funny purple guy. Do my horizons need to be expanded or Am I ok?

Dude you are fine. Keep playing them purple jams with pride!
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I am exactly the same.I want to listen to other artists and do but I quickly become bored with them and go back to Prince.Because he has encompassed so many different musical styles I can cherry pick from my Prince collection to suit my mood and there aren't too many artists/bands that you can do that with.My daughter always pretends to faint if she catches me listening to anything other than Prince.
Time is a trick....

I like Prince music eversince when i was 13 or so (My name is Prince! era) but after I saw the guy live in 1998 (new powersoul tour), I really became addicted to his music, and I'm still not getting bored! 50 % of what I listen is Prince or Prince affiliated

And also his funk n soul influences (Sly, James, p funk, Ew&f, Little Richard, Rick James, Ohio Players, ...)

So I guess I'm not the only one biggrin

I know what you mean. I find myself listening to Prince alot too, but I try to balance it by listening to other types of music such as gospel, jazz or something else. It keeps you interested in other artists. But I think your OK-your a Prince fan! wink .

This one is easy.

Since Prince is influenced by so many artists, start by exploring those further. Become a Sly/Jimmi/JB buff, take in all of StaxVolt, Parliament Funkadelic and Motown. Trip on classic psychedelia and the paisley revival. Revisit electropop and new wave. Check out some of the influences of Prince's influences, and then the influences of the influences of Prince influences, etc. etc. etc. like a kind of Musical Six Degrees of Separation. Pretty soon you'll be listening to polka and mongolian throat singing.

Dont worry - you will go thro your phases of listening to him - then change your mind for a while (like me and stick on some class acts like Kanae west, missy and snoop, john Legend Craig David) then all of a sudden its back to the main man... worship You need to have a break from him for a while then go back..
