Do You Remember where U were when....

Do you remember where U were when U became a Prince fan? Is it a moment that U will always remember? Or is it a moment that you'd rather forget? eye was a little kid(9 years old) listening to the radio and heard "Do Me Baby" and I've been hooked every since. wink .

Sitting on the lounge floor when I was about twelve or thirteen years old, watching "Top of the Pops" on a Thursday evening, and they played a snippet of "When Doves Cry" as it had just been released. That was it.

I was always aware of dude...My cousin had the "Soft & Wet" single...And when "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and Controversy" dropped, I dug those songs...But I really didn't become a hardcore fan until I was about 12...I remember watching the "1999" video on a local video show in Chicago...I was hooked...

Just heard some of his tunes and they were good. I guess I'm not a huge fan of his. Just a casual fan.

He puts out so much I can't understand how people can like it all. I also don't understand the reverse , how people can not at least like some of his music. The man is a hard worker.

The "1999" & "Little Red Corvette" videos -- I was 12, or just turned 13. Loved the music, the style, the energy...

Hmm... That's hard to say. I just became it, gradually. I remember enjoy watching Diamonds & Pearls and SexyMF on Mtv and VH1 when I was about six, and I remember how strange I thought it was when he became a symbol and I asked my mother why somebody would wanna do something like that?!

Then, 5 years ago or so we got a computer with Windows Media Player. I thought it was so cool and just looked up different artists. Then I suddenly remembered Prince and checked if there were some stuff of his there and so was the case. I listened to some of those samples and watched some of his music videos and then I was stuck biggrin

Definitively, in 1985 when I first heard Raspberry Beret for the first time on radio one in my father's car, the year after I saw Prince & the Revolution live and I'm still here.

1989: I heard my radio station played Batdance. I like the song and became a casual fan.
1991 watching Purple Rain on TV. and two weeks later I heard Gett Off and Cream played on radio constantly. Fell in love with PR and liked both songs from Diamond & Pearl album. Thats when I became a big fan. biggrin

Well - this was a gradual thing - but I think I was meant to be a fan - My dad gave me 'Purple Rain' - my mate was into Prince already so every time I went to hers the album was playing so I was sat in my Maths class at around 13 - 14 and I was thinking/daydreming - about him and it was then I decided It was no way back and I loved 'Take me with you' sooooo much --- I had to be a fan... nutty

same here - i saw him on tv doing "i wanna be your lover" when i was 10, and i thought he was really freakishly cool, then i saw him in rolling stone when i was about 12 and thought he looked amazing...but hearing 'let's go crazy' for the first time put me over the top.

yeah, it was a gradual thing for me too. the very first time i remember seeing/hearing prince was when i was about 7 years old; i saw the "u got the look" video on friday night videos (yeah, lil' ol' me was allowed to stay up that late on weekends and i always watched the show). i liked the song, but didn't think much else of it.

then around the same time lovesexy came out, i remember going to a record store called music circuit, and seeing a few copies of the album sitting up on wall shelves behind the counter. i remember looking at the album cover and thinking, "wow!" eek

then, when i was 9 years old i saw the video for "kiss"...i fell in love with the song. all of this, and prince didn't totally kick my ass till i was 14. lol
