Why doesn't he do so then? why would he refrain from blowing us away? why give us lesser works and hold back and the great stuff? it makes no sense at all. Blowing us away does not mean artistic compromise. If anything, a great, intellectual piece of work is perhaps the only way prince will ever blow anyone away now because the masses of sheep mtv fed sheep wouldnt even understand if he took his ability to the next level anyway. he lost most of those kinds of listeners people in the 80's! Andy Dick could be as sexy as George Clooney if he wanted to, but chooses not to. see how silly your rationalization sounds when the principles of the argument are changed but the structure of the argument remains the same. you judge things for what they are, not what you wish they could be. if Prince had a tear up the chart record in him, he would record it. you actually think he is putting forth all his effort and money to not appeal to as many people as possible? this message brought to you by logic.

yes well not now but yes to the last 10 years there's possible 2006 hits in many of his past albums and internet only releases. i know im thinking stupid thoughts but if he took one song from here, another from there.. he could get a bigger fanbase and make people finally realise that he is 'A OK' You saw the apple

I've heard this kind of silly argument before.
"He could blow them all away with a killer album if he wanted to." "He could easily repeat what he accomplished on Purple Rain if he wanted to." The simple reality is that, no, he couldn't if he merely "wanted to." He's tried to make an album that's as popular as Purple Rain many times, and they've all failed at even coming close. In the past few years, he's tried recording singles that could catch on more with the mainstream audience than his counterparts' attempts, but he's failed at that too (even though I still prefer his songs). Prince is most definitely trying. It'd make no sense for him to hold back. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

You're right. Prince has enough unreleased songs in his repertoire to make a serious hit album. But then again, Prince is an artist. I know that title is bounced around nowadays until it's virtually meaningless. But Prince is the real deal. Music theory, creativity and progressivism -- all mean things to him. Even though he's clearly in business to make money, there's always that age-old artist conundrum. How can I make music for public consumption without losing my artistic soul in the process? That alone would make it difficult to come up with traditionally hit albums. It's easier for your Britney Spears, Beyounces and Jessica Simpsons because they're not real artists. They sing and dance. But that's about it. They're virtually show-ponies....marionettes....not true creators of music...
