Carravaggio was Baroque, wasn't he? -------
A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti... "I've just had an apostrophe!" "I think you mean an epiphany..." | |

Here is a good link for all of your Caravaggio needs: http://www.ibiblio.org/wm...aravaggio/ Thank you Ice, but I know Caravaggio works, I've even seen some of them all up close 'n stuff. I just couldn't quite remember if he was a Baroque artist or not... We had to study the "Conversion On the Way To Damascus" in History and Appreciation of Visual and Performing Arts. -------

[This message was edited Wed Jul 10 12:37:55 PDT 2002 by Chandrasonic] You are quite welcome I love spreading the word about Caravaggio! The guy is overlooked by most people who are not art historians or students of art, but he was one of the Masters. SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com

The guy is overlooked by most people who are not art historians or students of art, but he was one of the Masters. Only because he used lights and darks which was, as I recall, characteristic of the time period. Rembrandt, Caravaggio, the masters of the time, as I remember. -------

Shame on us! It'll be alright... In that case... A lot of the great painters in history have worked from a black background... Just check out Bruegel! This is one of my favorite paintings by that guy: http://www.oir.ucf.edu/wm.../death.jpg SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com

Very interesting, Ice..
My favorite painting is called "The Halberdier" by Simon Vouet. I can't find any online copies of it, but it hangs in the Dayton Art Institute. (www.daytonartinstitute.org) I could spend all day there just staring at it, and I'm not really sure WHY. I also like this one, by April Gornik... http://tours.daytonartins...6=&F7=&F8= [This message was edited Wed Jul 10 13:02:02 PDT 2002 by BattierBeMyDaddy] -------

Here's a good question...What do you think of this: http://tours.daytonartins...7=TY03&F8= Makes me mad every time I see it. A monkey could do that... -------

That painting did nothing for me... call me silly, but I just didn't like it. It reminded me of a tacky, knit sweater... unless that was the name of the painting, at which point it was good. Well, the title was "Nightwood." But it's not the worst one there. There's one that's simply a white canvas with a blue line painted around it...WTF...That's not art -------

It was actually the overall surrealist, long-legged animal thing that got me... I like that crap.
