He was nice enough to invite people onstage. This woman was overjoyed to be there; you could see it on her face. She stands behind him and not once, but TWICE rubs his arms, WHILE HE'S PLAYING GUITAR! Not only should she not be touching him, period, but touching his arms, while he's trying to keep time with the band? Uncool... At a rap show, she would have been shot. By the performer. In mid-song. See my other post? Keith Richards used his guitar as a *club* before the fan could grab him during his own birthday show. Keef also threatened to beat a hell's angel up during the concert at altamont

Just for the record, why do you care that he called a grandma a grandma so much. I could see if he called her a bitch, or something like that but grandma, lighten up bro. Very "Christian" of him I only care because drunk or not, he teases, people get out of control, he calls her "grandma"? As if there is something wrong with "older" fans, woman. Why not just say "Easy Woman", instead of "easy grandma". And for the record, I am not a grandma or grandpa, and really, there is nothing wrong with this blessed title. The only thing that made the womans antics worth commenting on is that she jump on him not once but twice. The first time he was cool about it. The second time was way too much. I cringed when she touched him the first time because I thought he would be thrown off and then leave the stage. After the first time passed without incident, I breathed a sigh of relief, hoping that the woman would get the hint. Then she did it again. His remark was funny and a subtle jab to her and to others: don't touch me especially when I'm trying to put on a show. He would have been within his rights to stop playing and walk off, or to have the woman arrested--thankfully, he did neither. Some people tell me I've got great legs...

Romera said: Prince fans, even after damn near 30 years still disrespect the guy. Women dress like whores, drunk to the point of obnoxiousness, damn near run your ass over to get to the front of the stage and then on the stage and somebody is wondering why Prince called them 'grandma'? He could have had her ass arrested. You put your hands on me without my permission and you are getting knocked the fuck out.
Hello!!! It irritated me so much in Chicago when all those drunk, stupid, rude bimbos tried to bumrush the stage. I love Prince to death and have never missed him in Chicago since 1989 (when I was old enough to go to his shows). I am a hardcore fan and am proud of it. On one hand it is cool that he lets people up, but on the other hand, I can't stand it because all those idiots use it as an excuse to push from the back to try to get on stage. I really think that someone may get hurt during one of these shows. I had a nice spot up front, then my position changed after all those stupid fools from the back came rushing forward. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

I believe that during the Musicology tour, people invited on stage were told before going up not to touch Prince. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

Prince took one glance at her as she was being pulled away and thought of a quick line on the spot that was funny and made the crowd laugh, instantly re-taking control of the show. He handled the situation in exactly the right way.
People like her have no respect for the fact that Prince lets people up on stage - too many incidents like that and he won't do that anymore. The show was great stuff, by the way - much better than I was expecting. Thanks for laying out the whole picture- I agree with you, in that he handled it the right way The road you choose to walk in this life, is a road that leads to the next.....

i think it's kinda funny. she was out of line grabbing him like that.
but if he called her 'grandma' because she was coming on to him and he considered her too old, it would be Xtremely ironic given the age difference between him and his recent women

Happy4Me said: I heard an "older" Prince fan got a little out of control last nite at the philly show and Prince called her "grandma"!????
Is this the truth and if so, why would he call her that? How the hell can somebody (Prince) show sexy chest hairs and tease, have young girlie with ass's hanging out of their shorties, wiggling around the stage and expect for people to act "normal" ? And, why a need for the "grandma" as if this was an insult to be "Old"? Will Prince ever be labeled "grandpa"?! And if he has that chance, Prince, it aint to bad being a "grandma" or "grandpa" In case you haven't noticed, Prince can be a prick sometimes.

And you better not get to know Prince closer because he surely can/could be a lot ruder. Some people... My last post was based on the first post, so now that I know the "whole" story, I think she was a little weird. Still, Prince can be a prick sometimes.

Give me a break! Given the context of the situation it seems that there was nothing age-ist or deraugotory meant by Prince's comment. And as others have pointed out:
1. the "woman" was out of line, 2. Prince easily could have stopped the show (I heard he left the stage once b/c of smokers) and furthermore, if he would have said,"Easy Woman" then someone else would be complaining, 'She was a LADY, not a woman' or 'Did he call her easy?!' or some other bullshit. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

P has crazy woman grabbing him all the time on stage. Some even have tried to grab his rear-end. He handles it pretty well. If it really bothered him I assume he would stop having people on the stage.

Hahaha, that cracked me up. Thanks for sharing.
I am still puzzling why the heck people think it is ok to get their hands on the man when he is onstage and playing his guitar? The very least we can do to show our gratefulness is to get down, enjoy the moment and keep our hands to ourselves. I speak in we, Im a Mom. When I was up there, I felt respectful and real blessed to be able to get down in his vicinity and had a hard time not pulling the ladies and men offa P.
