Prince on Sirius - an idea As we all know musicology was all about teaching us the difference between crap bubblegum pop produced in studios and played by musicians with as much passion as a secretary typing dictation, and real music, played by real musicians, with real passion.
What I think would be a great service to all of us would be a prince station on Sirius radio. It would be a station that Prince would program. It would consist of old and new artists Prince finds interesting, inspirational, or just fun. It would be an opportunity to experience many of his influence and have exposure to great music we may otherwise never hear. so that is my idea.

Prince is hip.
Prince knows Technology. Prince doesn't jump into murky waters. Prince doesn have time for that cause he knows his time is not up, and he knows that satlite radio's time is still yet to come. Yeah, that's an intresting enough idea for prince when he is like 70. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

excelent Idea DaleM!
here's what I wrote to them over a year ago. "Dear Sir or Madam, I would like to start off by saying I've only been a Sirius customer since around Christmas of 04 but I am totally pleased with the service and am becoming quite accustomed to the format. Thanks to all involved for their hard work and dedication. On to the reason for my e-mail, Prince. Being an avid Prince fan one thing I was looking forward to hearing on satellite radio was more of Prince's music, not just more of the same ol' same ol' but more of his non-single tracks, more of his Jazz, more of his Funk, more of his Rock...but sadly I have heard none of this so far. To me, satellite radio is where it's at for an artist like Prince, who's been basically "blacklisted" by mainstream radio due to his contract disputes with Warner Bros. and his general "buck" of the system. As a member of Prince's on-line music club (NPGMC.com) since it began, I've witnessed an on-going theme at the club and at concerts where he refers to "WNPG" a fictitious "radio" station. Almost like an "imagine if"...kind of thing...well I've been imagining if a WNPG actually existed on Sirius Satellite Radio and well, let's just say it has propelled me to write this e-mail. Maybe I'm just some crazy fan with a crazy thought but....maybe it's not so crazy. I think Prince could have his own channel on Sirius, that would play all of his works, including related artists and similar music. Now, I have NO industry experience and I will not pretend to know all of the legalities and complications that are involved with copyright laws and royalties and what have you....so maybe this half brained idea could never be a reality but I will leave that to the experts and proceed with high hopes. Let me tell you about the VAST catalog of Prince and Prince related music that could fill up this channel. Prince himself has 26 released albums to his name alone, not including The Hits/b-sides and the more recent (WB release) Greatest Hits collection. On top of that he has 5 NPG (his band) albums, to which his contribution is HIGH. Then there are 4 The Time albums, the first 2 were completely written and produced by Prince and the second 2 were mostly written and produced by Prince, there's also Vanity6 and Applonia6 albums both written and produced by Prince, as well as Sheila E's Glamorous Life, Romance 1600 and Sheila E albums and Mayte Garcia's album Child of the Sun. Jill Jones, The Family and Madhouse are all Prince collaborated albums too. Since his on-line music club began he has had 4 internet download only full album releases, 2 internet purchase only full album releases (one instrumental Jazz and one acoustic Piano and vocal) as well as 2 download only singles. In the second year of the club he produced 12 (one a month for a year) 1 hour long "ahdio" shows that featured un-released live jams, extended song versions and rare outtakes as well as featuring other artists such as Ani DiFranco, Jill Scott and many others. If that's not enough there are TONS of related artists that could be featured and or contribute including: Wendy and Lisa, Greasy Meal, George Clinton, Maceo Parker, Rhonda Smith, Lenny Kravitz, Chaka Chan, Rosie Gains, Candy Dulfer, Larry Graham, Miles Davis, Martika, Sheena Easton, Teana Marie, Andre Cymone, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Dr Fink, and Jesse Johnson among others. NONE of this even takes into account what an AWESOME live performer he is...as I'm sure you're well aware that Prince's Musicology Tour was the top grossing tour of 2004. Prince has recorded almost every single performance he has ever done....and has only released a tiny fraction of that to the public.....can you image satellite radio as his outlet??? Live...in studio performances!!! My knees get weak just thinking about it. As you can see I could go on and on about this true music enigma that is Prince, he is MUSIC. As I said earlier in this e-mail I have no clue of the logistics of all this, nor do I have any idea if this is something Prince would even be interested in....all I know is he is virtually ignored by terrestrial radio and DESERVES more respect and attention. I hope my e-mail wasn't so long that it wasn't read in it's entirety. If you've read this far I thank you so much for your time and consideration. A new and loyal Sirius Satellite Radio subscriber, Angel" hmm, Maybe I'll send that out again. "not a fan" yeah...ok

What's up fellow Sirius lovers. I agree. I think Shorty's WNPG email was perfect. Have you two been to www.siriusbackstage.com . It is a fan site for Sirius, but they do have a lot of pull with Sirius. They are having a contest right now for fans to create channels they would like to see on Sirius. I have posted three stations so far under the name "funkfreak". Here is a sample of my funk station:
1 Channel Name: Funkalicious Format: The hottest hits and deep tracks that represent the broad spectrum of Funk. 2. Genre: Hip-hop/R&B (Artist Mix? Funk, rock, Jazz, anything funky?) 3. We play the funkiest mix of music from today and yesterday. If the music and the artist is funky, it will play. The dj’s and the music are funky as hell. 4. Sample Songs 1. Get up off of that Thing-James Brown 2. Star Child/Mothership Connection-Parliament 3. Happy Valentine’s Day- Outkast 4. HeartBeat- War 5. Erotic City-Prince 6. Funky Rock- (2 hour show) Will focus on rock that influenced funk and funk that influenced rock and everything that has since then resulted. 3. Futuristic Funk (2 hour show)- Funk of today and funky tracks of tomorrow. Looks outside of classic funk artist. Plays tracks that are just plain old funky from any genre. Techno, Industrial, Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop and so on 4. Friday Night Funk Party -Plays only the funkiest and most danceable funk tracks. Guaranteed to be the life of many Friday night Parties. 5. Artist Pics: Special Guest Dj' shows that allow the artist to do what ever they want. Jimmy Buffett has a station, Emimem has a station, the Rolling Stones has a station, Elvis has a station, give Prince a station! My other stations are "Party Down" and "Terrestrial Radio Sucks". Check them out and please vote for the "funkalicious" station. Sirius needs more funk, including more of the Purple One.

What does anyone knowing that their time is not up have to do with being played on Sirius. Do you think Satellite only plays classic rock or only plays old musicians? I am really confused by your posting. Do you personally like to listen to normal Radio? Sirius has exposed me to a ton of music, I otherwise would not have listened to. Not srue what you mean "murky waters". Even the most bearish analyst on Wall Street think that Satellite Radio is the radio of the future(The golden egg of radio). I think WNPG would be an awesome format for a station on Sirius or even on NPGMC.

A radio stations Programer, is a full time job, and prince wouldn't dig that much work for not much reward. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
