Pink Cashmere

I hardly see this great tune mentioned here... do u guys like it? ... Just curious wink

I always thought it would have fit very good on SOTT (when was it recorded btw?); just a shame it isn't to be found on a regular album.

Maybe it's due to the "physical nearness" to Adore on the GH1 cd, but I always saw this as a kind of brother/sister record to Adore. I mean the "overall feeling" is pretty similar, and even the sound is not that much different, or?

Brilliant, Beautiful, Heartfelt Song!!! The acoustic guitar, string and vocal arrangements perfectly compliment each other. I also think the lyrics are pure Prince. The breakdown of the masculine and gender stereotypes through the imagery of a man making a coat of Pink Cashmere for his lover.

Has anyone ever heard this song live? I agree with the post that said it would've been a good fit on SOTT but it also would've fit nice during the acoustic set of Musicology.

I love this song so much, especially the lyrics 'here I go again, fallin in love all over, the cycle never ends,u just pray u don't get burned'
I think I read somewhere that he wrote this song for Jill Jones. He ought to do this more often live, wonder why he never has?

AFAIK, all sources say it was written for/about Anna Fantastic, his bit of jailbait fluff at the time. smile

IMO, this song is a prime example of Prince's lack of judgement of his own work sometimes. That he sat on this song till 1993, and it ended up only as a track on a best of, albiet a single, with a crappy compilation video - It says a lot about Prince's judgement of his own work.

I listen to this *now*, and I hear something that would perk people's interest in Prince. Imagine if Prince released this, in place of Te Amo Corazon. Wow!

love2 I love this song. One of my favorite parts is the way he sings these lines,

"I'm gonna count every second, every minute
Each and every hour of every day til U come on back
Come on back 2 your little man"
<---extra especially love the way he sings this line.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I agree with you. Prince always prefers his overproduced, pretty and elaborate songs over his dark, melancholy, quirky and sparse arrangements. Even his acoustic and solo piano albums are lessened with ornate production. Doesn't he realize that there is a need to go "dark" every once in a while. And to your point, "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" and "17 Days" were B sides when they are two of his best songs.

The funniest thing that I have read recently, is that WB had to pay Prince not to be part of the Hits compiliation. Well, on the other hand they didn't do his catalog justice either with that short thrift set.

Excellent song
I especially love Clare Fischer arangement just before prince kicks in with some excellent guitar.

gone to give it a spin now.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

It was included on various configurations of the early Graffiti Bridge / Rave projects in 89 before Batman came along. I think it must've been too late for Lovesexy as it would have fit perfectly on there. I've made up my own version of Lovesexy to include this and Joy In Repetition, and leaving When 2 R In Love on The Black album. Listening to them back to back you can imagine one mind blowing double album.

I do agree that to sit on this for 5 years was a disgrace, particularly as he released songs like Jughead and Grafiti Bridge in between. Its the eternal frustration of being a prince fan though. Hes done it with many many songs, and is probably still doing it now.
