One Night Alone goes RETAIL

I serve music in an mp3 channel on DALNET and today ONE NIGHT ALONE - PRINCE(RETAIL) appeared. I spoke to the channel operator and she said it is the full retail version and only music released to retail markets makes it onto the header of channel. So this begs the question when is it coming out and how does everyone feel knowing this?!

Peace Y'all

You had to know this was coming. Did you really expect him to pass up the chance to make more money by making it available to the public? There are a lot of fans who aren't npgmc members. I know I'll be buying the retail version.

This was the best lyric on the album (from Standing at the Altar):

"I got the news just yesterday
They said U up and ran away
If there's a God way up above
One day U'll have 2 answer 2 Him 4 my love"

I actually liked that song... I might be the only one, but I liked it.

Who has the energy 2 keep up with Prince's shenanigans? Not I. Prince has screwed me several times, I'm just his "screwee". I don't attempt 2 understand him, I don't attempt 2 hear his excuses...and I certainly don't attempt 2 b a good consumer. wink

I wonder if the retail version will be different?

There is no way in hell that the ONA CD
he sent to members will sell to casual prince fans.

The CD that all the NPGMC members got is geared towards Prince enthusiasts. A 35 minute CD of unpolished piano demos will not sell to average fans.

I hope he made some changes (hence, if this is the ONE MAN JAM CD) perhaps he added tracks and or added additional mixing and instrumentation on some tracks. Then...we might have something.
If it breaks when it bends, you better not put it in.

I am hearing that the "One Man Jam" CD is nothing but a repackaged re-release of Pepe Willie's stuff (a la "94 East").

By the way... if Prince does decide to screw the NPGMC members and release the disc to the general public, I sincerely hope that he does something about that abmonination that he passed off as an album cover... horrible stuff, really.

Not calling anyone a liar or anything, but I would like to get a little bit of more reliable confirmation before I get too excited about this piece of news.

Not a member myself, I couldn't afford it. Although I maybe could afford it now, if I budgeted correctly, I decided to hold off for now, and I might be glad I did.

hmmm...and the logic behind releasing this is? TRC was just such a hot seller ya know...and right when the momentum for actual radio airplay hits, lets release another album...

can someone please explain to me why it wouldnt make more since just to sale the crap through NPGMC? why not let the small mom and pop companies buy them from npgmc? why even bother selling the crap to WalMart, Target or Tower? If someone is interested in his music, they will hunt for it...a casual fan is not going to be snooping at Wallyworld and say, "wow, i didnt know prince had a new album out...let me plop down some hard cash for it"...them days are long gone...or NPS, RAVE, or TRC would have sold a lot more then they did.

I really don't mind. Two or three months of exclusivity is fine with me .

Besides, if you really want Prince to keep all the NPGMC stuffexclusive, then you cannot expect anything really outstanding to come out of the club. It's certainly not an incentive to provide the best quality. You think that if Prince came up with something that's comparable to his great classic albums, he'd keep it exclusive to the club? Indeed, if something as great would come out of the club and be exclusive, we'd all be clamoring for retail so that other people can hear it.

Point taken about the reliability, i was a little shocked to see the album title listed outside a prince site! I have served in Mirc for a very long time and ONA (NPGMC) was distributed amongst a few people in the channel when it came out in May. I got in there today and the first message i was greeted with was the new Prince album with retail in big letters, and people were go mad to get it. The logic of releasing it retail baffles me as it's hardly going to sell. Just reporting what i saw from a very reliable MP3 channel. With regards to the sheer speed at which stuff is made available in MIRC, the new Def Leppard album was available before a street date had even been announced, people didn't believe it was genuine but it was.

What is wrong with Prince selling ONA retail? More power to him is what I say -- and I hope radio picks up some of those tunes, too, 'cuz the album is refreshing and different!

why are ppl getting upset? Its HIS music let him do sell it wherever he wants, however he wants. NPGMC members had it exclusive for sometime, why can't the non-NPGMC members get it too?

I think the problem is that we members like feeling special. That we, his "fams", get exclusive material.

However, I think that he needs to serve himself as well.

I find this to be a complicated issue...
