I doubt it. It's a reprise of their album that's been out since 2004.

I think his biggest competition is probably Mobb Deep (their G-Unit debut) and LL Cool J. They both have albums releasing that week.

can we add Morrisey's new CD as well as part of the competition? I thought I read somewhere that his new release is also slated for March 21.

Oops, Ringleader of the Tormentors by Morrissey is not being released on that date, sorry. Looks like April 3.

Reprise is their record label, but I think it actually is a special edition of their 2nd album or something.

I'm gonna hafta agree with others... The Game & My Chemical Romance are probably the only 2 artists out there who could give P a run for his money on opening week sales. However, this doesn't promise a #1 album. Remember that he must also compete with who's out there now. Its gonna b hard 2 unseat those who have had a long run. Unless, that is, all the orgers go out and BUY a copy of the cd. lurking

My Chemical Romance's album on March 21st is a live album. So, I'm still doubtful.

From what is being released that day things look very good for the man BUT what hasn't been mentioned is this: What about the CD's being released between tomorrow (Feb 28th) and March 14th and if any new CD hits number 1, can and will it stay at number 1 on March 28th? In 2004, Usher was #1 when Prince debuted at #3 and he had been at #1 for a few weeks. Having said that, I really think if Prince does a lot of TV shows and high profile ones at that, then Prince may have his biggest chart opening week EVER. All everyone has to do is play the game.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

This certainly isn't his next aftermath release "the doctors advocate" which has a tentative release date of 06/06/06 so this shouldn't pose a threat.

Regardless of where it charts , how many copies do you think it will sell in week one.

Musicology dropped 177,000 in week one. (191,000 includes concert giveaways)?

What about 3121 ?? do you think he can top 200,000 ?

What a # 1 record will do however is give him alot of good press and free publicity.

This headline will be plastered everywhere....

PRINCE RETURNS TO THE TOP OF THE ALBUM CHARTS AFTER 17 YEARS

a # 2 debut ....nothing .

I think Universal and Prince should whore themselves to the media in the 2 weeks before its release to make sure this happens, because it certainly is in reach.

T.I.'s "King" releases that day, also.

I think that might be a potential threat.

major releases :

2/28 : Kid Rock , Alan Jackson , Bruce Springsteen, Ne-Yo

3/7 : Juvenille, David Gilmore

3/14: nothing note worthy

(all according to hitsdailydouble.com)

I like our chances. Nothing there is a threat once 3/21 rolls around

T.I.'s album comes out April 11th, and LL Cool J isn't until early May. My Chemical Romance won't top Prince with an odds'n'ends live album (which they aren't even promoting). Teddy Geiger will do well thanks to his song "For You I Will (Confidence)" but I don't think he has a real shot at number one.

The biggest new release from March 14th, honestly, is "Ultimate Prince." Other new releases that day include Donald Fagen and country act Shedaisy. It's possible.....possible...Prince will have the chart's highest debut two weeks in a row. "Ultimate" will in no way be number one, but it may be the highest new entry that week if promotion for 3121 spills over and gives it a bump.

Big new releases from March 7th include Pink Floyd frontman David Gilmour, Hassidic rapper Matisyahu, Van Morrison, and Juvenile. If any of those go to number one they will likely not have much staying power.

The biggest new releases this week are Ne-Yo (who may be number one but likely won't linger there for four weeks; he shouldn't be a challenge to Prince), a gospel album from country star Alan Jackson, and emo band Hawthorne Heights. Kid Rock and Bruce Springsteen have new releases but they are live albums. I doubt either will still be in the top 100 by March 21st.

If Prince pulls one or two high-profile appearances the week 3121 comes out, I honestly do think he has his best shot at the top since 1989.

Well we know that the SNL performance will be re-run on 3/25 -- after the Tuesday release, but still in the week of the release. I know I usually don't get to the store until the Saturday or Sunday after the Tuesday release (unless I take off work like I might do for 3121!), so that could impact.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see him on the Tonight Show or a couple other shows around that time. And if he really is going to do a tour starting in May, this might be a good time to start announcing dates.
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

HeyJude

I've been a Prince fan for over 20 years, but after "my" disappointments with NewPowerSoul, Rave, TRC and Musicology, I'm spending my money on the new My Chemical Romance CD first... Although I DO LOVE "Fury"!! If there is more of that vibe on 3121, I'll definitely pick it up.

Have you not read the positive reviews!

3121 is gonna be a great CD!

Come on, what's $13? That's a couple frappachinos and a bagel. Prince has to mean more to you than that. Plus, if you don't like it you probably can resell it for half the cash.
