I really don't care for this cd. But, I do like "The Ladder". "Temptation" is good, too.

This is one of my favourite P. albums. There's not one track on it I don't like. Some people are like Slinkies...
They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Funny that you should post this question, since I just bought Around the World In A Day on CD just two days earlier (I've had it all this time, only on cassette).
My favorite track has to be "Condition of the Heart". Beautiful harmonies and piano playing make it an excellent track. Plus the lyrics to the song are haunting, if not a bit confusing. I have always been confused by the line "Every day's a yellow day...I'm blinded by the daisies in your yard". I have often wondered what that line meant? Anybody have any theories on it? I'm interested in hearing your opinions. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I like that album, too. My favorite tracks would be "Condition of the Heart" and "Pop Life". I don't like "Temptation" that much.

"Tambourine" and "Condition of the Heart" made me turn my ears away from all the Beatles I was discovering/listening to that year.

I love this album, Pop life is one of my favourite songs. I think a lot of people were disappointed with Around the world in a day, but to me it's a reflection of his uniqueness.

like the album. don't have favs in particular. 'the ladder' is good, just as 'paisley park', 'pop life', 'america', etc.
worst song from the album: 'temptation'. i really feel this is one of prince's worst 80's work. maybe there are moments in the song that are okay, but that's it.. i never listen to that one when spinning ATWIAD. don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
purple music does the same to my brain i'm high, so high

This was the last album that offered through-and-through kickass 12" singles featuring quality extended mixes and b-sides, so it has a warm place in my heart...sure, "Parade" had good singles for "Kiss" and "Mountains", but he fell off a little bit by the time "Anotherlover"/"Boys and Girls" came around. When ATWIAD came out, it was still an exciting time to be a Prince freak...he was coming down off the success of Purple Rain, the tour, the movie, the Oscar...we were all wondering what was next...and the answer was confounding...news that he was retiring...hints that there'd be no singles or videos...then we get "Raspberry Beret"...the coughing...the cartoon...the symbolism...the costumes...that wack-ass Liza Minnelli hairdo...and of course, the album. The first time I heard the title track, every last hair stood up on my body - sad, funky, psychadelic, spiritual, nasty, all at once. "Say papa, I think I wanna dance!" Hellz yeah. The first time hearing "Condition of the Heart"? I've been hit by cars with less impact. By the time "Temptation" ended on that first listen, my ears had turned into all new parts of my body. For a 14-year-old who knew jack shit about music (though growing up with a mother who always listened to Hendrix, Beatles and Zappa, I could be selling myself short a little...), this kind of an experience was revelatory. Is it his best album? No, not at all. Was hearing that album at that particular time in my life one of the best things that could have happened to me? You betcha.

1 of Princes best in my opinion. The Ladder is my fav!!! "Everybody's looking 4 the ladder, everybody wants salvation of the soul. The steps u take r no easy road. But the reward is great 4 those who want 2 go.."

When it came out I LOVED it...played it death. Loved it all...even "Temptation". However Around the World hasn't grown well for me. I still love some individual songs, "Pop Life" remains one of my top 5 P songs...but as a whole, I have a hard time getting through it these days. Also I think I now know why my friends HATED 'Temptation'...what a turd of a song.
Still love Paisley Park, Raspberry Beret, Pop Life, & America (really the 12" more than the short one on the album).

one of my favorite Prince albums. i remember the day i bought it and rushed home to give it a listen and how surprised i was at how different it was from PR. Condition Of the Heart blew me away the first time i heard it.
but i can't pick favorite songs from this album. i love it all. and i agree with Anxiety - great 12"s off this album.

I love ATWIAD . . . it is so textured and original!!! I remember upon hearing it for the first time, thinking how different it was from Purple Rain. But after a few listens, it really hit me as a "sister" album to Purple Rain.
My favorite songs are Paisley Park, America, and The Ladder!!

I do like the album alot.
My greatest memory of it though was the negative reaction from all those Prince fans that jumped on the bandwaggon because of Purple Rain. They thought he was just a funky rocker then he hits everybody with this strange record. Most of my friends at the time who loved PR just immediately jumped off the bandwagon. They thought it was shit, appart from Raspberry Beret which has a universal appeal. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

One of those songs that I really can't stand. I should give this album another shot, I guess. This was discussed here before and I said I would pull it out and play it, and then I never did. Since it seems it's a favorite of many here, I guess I really should.

my favs are: 1. Pop Life 2. Paisley Park 3. the Ladder 4. Hello 5. ATWIAD 6. Condition of the Heart 7. Temptation the whole album/b-sides era is his BEST! ...now this king had a subject named ELECTRA!... I think that around the world in a day is one of his most underrated albums. Its a shame that it had to follow up Purple Rain, maybe the media would have given more credit to the album if it had not followed up Purple Rain, and was released later down the road. Say 2 or 3 years later. That lp is the very very strong from start 2 finish.

Of course my favorites are The Ladder, Around the World in a Day. (there's something very dreamy about it) and Paisley Park. When ATWIAD was released, I was 11-12 and totally dispesed Condition of the Heart but adored Tamborine and Temptation. Now its the other way around.

One of my fav too--i especially dig tamborine, the ladder, and temptation. 'Oh silly man...that's not how it works. You have to want her for the right reason..."
"I do.." "You don't, now die." That's the shizzznitz baby!! What a trip that album is.

Everyone should check this one out at least once. IMO a perfect link between "Purple Rain" and "Parade". One Of Prince's personal favourites at the time (85-86) I believe (Mojo radio interview). The Live performance video 4 "America" is one of my all time favourite Prince clips. I wish I had some more photos/footage of the psychedelic Blue Tele though.

She's Always In My Hair.
good album though, and yes, very underrated. Then again, it's not something I would expect the general public to enjoy, short of Raspberry Beret and maybe Pop Life. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
