Why can't we get Prince on TRL or 106 & Park?

Madonna has the #1 video "I'm sorry" on TRL right now, I'm pretty darn sure it ain't all her fans voting for this video.
The video is hott and she looks and dances great in it, but come on people, how come we can't get "Black Sweat" on the countdown. The song in my opinion is funky enough to register next to Ashley Simpson's LOVE and score the #1 position. Were talking about the first Black artist besides Micheal Jackson to break out on MTV and has been a staple on MTV for nearly 2 Decades!

www.mtv.com
Go to TRL PAGE and VOTE!

Most of Madonna's hardcore fans are within the same age bracket as Prince's.
Most gay guys who love Madonna, don't watch TRL, most Women who grew up dying to be her, are now mothers and wouldn't get online and vote! Now the newbies who watch TRL are more focused on Jack Johnson, Ashley Parker Angel and so on!

Plus BET, should give Prince a break on the Countdown, all the kids seemed to like it once it was premiered. So how come we can't get him on their little countdown for even a week!?

Lets VOTE!
Vote numerous of times please.

Ok!

First-I don't think that Prince has ever done a show like TRL or 106&Park, but your right the kids did seem to dig "Black Sweat." These shows play so much garbage that I don't think they know what real music is. Second-Prince has so many fans of all ages that I don't think his sales for 3121 will be hurt if he doesn't appear on these shows wink . If U know if he has appeared-please let me know.

106th and Park premiered Black Sweat a couple of weeks ago but of course no one votes for it, even if they like it. I have no idea if Black Sweat is even in the list for songs to vote for on TRL. They did a shitty job in premiering it by showing a little bit of it the day 106th and Park showed it. More reason why we have to complain like hell to ALL these music places to get our man on these shows.

NPD313 mentioned Madonna. This is what pisses me the fuck off. I like homegirl but why is she so damn special that her shit gets played regularly and in all areas and we are lucky to get a glimps of Prince? I saw Sorry on TRL yesterday and I was shocked that she was at 3, considering that I haven't seen the video during regular video times. It's just not fair and it needs to change.

Prince appeared on TRL in 1999 when Carson Daly was hosting it. That right there should be all the reason in the world to have his song on the god damn countdown.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Well, there's a lot music industry politics that play into getting Prince on TRL and 106...From my experiences in the entertainment business, fans play a small fraction of a role in getting vidoes on the countdown shows...Once a medium that was driven by the faithful viewers, TRL and 106 for past 5 to 6 years have become a corporate-driven machine...The big record labels pay off promotional companies to call in to request their artists' songs...I've seen it first hand..These companies pay off interns to bombard the phone lines and Internet in order to get their artists exposure...There is no doubt that fans play a part in the getting some of these videos some play...

But a huge part of the equation is MTV's and BET's dirty little secret...Technically, since it doesn't smack of payola, this practice will never be banned...I will give Universal a lot of credit for their commitment to Prince so far (the purple ticket contest, the overseas exposure, ect... ect..) But if they really want Prince to win on the video countdowns (which can make a huge impact on album and single sales), Universal has to be willing to play the game for Prince in this regard...Madonna's label is certianly working the machine for her....

I'm mystified why some of you are so desperate for Prince to be on shows like TRL.
Or, more specifically, his videos.
Can't you just enjoy his music and not worry so much about where he charts or why his video can't get on an idiotic show like TRL?
True, if Prince was still at WB, Te Amo Corazon would probably be #1 on TRL, and most of you'd be saying "WTF"???
If you're naive enough to believe it's just votes by the public that determine these chart placings and not record company payola, then I have some land right next to a New Orleans levee that you might be interested in purchasing.
This looks like it's gonna be a great year for Prince fans. Old ones, new ones and everyone in between. TV appearances, new music, a tour and who knows what else. If the rest of the world jumps on the bandwagon, great. If they don't, getting a concert ticket will be a hell of a lot easier. lol
Either way, enjoy it.

Madonna's kind of an anomaly. Her sound is so pop that she appeals to the same audience that loves Ashley Simpson, Kelly Clarkson, et al. But you don't see anyone else from her generation on TRL. Even U2, who are still selling records don't get their videos played on TRL. Madonna will be on that show as long as she's making energetic dance/pop and looking 'reasonably' youthful. It's all about the image and has nothing to do with the actual music. I like Madonna but she wouldn't exist without videos. Who cares if Prince is on TRL?

No, its the millions of teenagers who'd rather see Juelz Satanna, Chris Brown, D4L, Dem Franchise Boyz, Bow Wow, etc. If Prince wants to appeal to them, he's gotta "drop with it" and *snap*.

As a huge Madonna fan,I have to admit,it's nice seeing her videos doing so well on TRL.I can't believe that "Hung Up" and "Sorry" both reached the Number One position. These aren't even two of her best videos! But I never actually watch TRL or MTV.You have to sit through too much crap just to see the stuff that you like.

As for Prince and "Black Sweat"....have you guys been voting for it? Alot of Prince fans dismiss things like TRL,but unless we all get very enthusiastic and start voting in large numbers,we won't see Prince in the countdown. The choice is up to us.

It's not a big deal, really. The song is fantastic and if the album is just as good,it will find it's audience.

The funny thing about MTV is.... they never seem to show videos anymore! Whenever I turn it on,they're showing some stupid "reality" show.TRL is one of the only times when they actually show videos.

Video channels are for teenagers

Come on, when you were young and watched MTV, were you crazy about seeing a 40plus artist on there? Probably not.

So why do you think that young people today need to see Prince - he is too old for them. And please - all this "they must listen to good music - today's music is so crap" is such an stuuuupid argument, and was heard in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s...

Young kids should listen to music by performers of their age up to 30.

Well, what is so original about Te amo corazon or Black Sweat? Not exactly genre-breaking, awe-drapping, defines-music-in-a-new-way stuff, me thinks (certainly not bad, but not thaaaat great either)

THANK YOU!!! Prince fans tend to get all snotty when it comes to shows like 106th and Park and TRL but they don't seem to realize that it's not so much about chart position so much as it's about exposure. It's apparent that Prince wants to be seen in a wider scale than just through the internet so why not support him in this endeavor? I said it in another thread somewhere that the Prince community is known for being very loyal to the man so why not show it when it comes to voting for him on these shows? It won't hurt you. Hell you don't have to watch the show. If you can come here to see what's up with Prince, then if there's a way to vote for him on a chart, why not do so?

Glad to see you like Black Sweat there Davideye!
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Not sure if this has anything to do with it,but Prince has had a stormy relationship with MTV in the past.He once refused to hand over a video for the song "Sign O The Times" simply because they rejected a Jill Jones video...in the 1994 Vibe interview,he complained that they wouldn't show his videos when he refused to appear on that year's VMAs...and on and on.Madonna,on the other hand, has remained loyal to MTV from the beginning and they reward her by showing her videos, hyping up her albums, and giving her tremendous exposure. In any case,I don't think Prince cares about MTV one way or the other.
