Mmmm ... "an extremely loud and drunk woman"

Talk about Tamar

So it really was the Tamar show tonight at the Orpheum. Prince's latest protege spent nearly the entire evening up front, with the Purple One standing back, playing guitar and smiling.

This clearly left some fans disappointed -- as we were filing out, we had to make our way around an extremely loud and drunk woman who was shouting about how she wasn't going to leave until Prince played a few songs. (The house lights were on and roadies were clearing the stage by this point.)

While Tamar was the focal point, it was wholly obvious that Prince was the man pulling all the strings. He clearly wanted to create his own '70s-style soul show -- Tina Turner, minus the spousal abuse -- and he succeeded.

It was an utterly spectacular evening -- Tamar's got a voice that would fill three football stadiums along with the stage presence to back it up. Fun, funny and terrifically entertaining.

I'll post my full, proper review here at some point Sunday, and it'll show up in the Pioneer Press on Monday. But until then, please post your thoughts on the show in the comments section -- especially if you were one of those fans who went up onstage to dance.

As I was leaving I heard a bunch of people (and I mean A BUNCH OF PEOPLE) complaining about paying $63 bucks to see Tamar and Prince only sang 1 1/2 songs. I actually thought it was a great show but then again I only paid $31 and knew that the media wasn't making it clear enough that it wasn't a Prince show so I wasn't disappointed by Prince playing such a small role.

She might be doing that here at the Philadelphia concert. I would love to get to meet her crazy ass.

I have to admit, that was my very first thought, but I thought I'd just hint at the top of the post.

It's a wonderful and dreadful thing, the internet, when you can indict an individual based on their web persona and a blog report

lol

If only the blog had said:

" - an EXTREMELY loud and DRunK WoMAn - "

we would have had incontrevertible proof.

I appreciate the sentiment, but something about your comparison of Prince to Ike Turner both makes me curious and makes me nervous.
