2) Parade - Of all his 80's albums, this is the "wannabe something" one imo. Prince trying to approach different styles, but lacking the brilliance of SOTT yet. Sounds like a pre-study to later work sometimes (exceptions like "Kiss" again, of course). Not to talk about this haircut...

To me Parade is amongst his coolest albums list. This album was kinda euro funk and it had a great feel and flow to it, I like it cuz it was so different to other stuff he was doing, it was done in that period where almost every album was something new and differnt from the last each time, I remember at the time thinking this was a really trippy album, I guess if he made another Parade type album today I might have the oppinion you have about but that would only be because i would compare it to Parade and the fact that Parade is the original and just was a great example of Prince's creativity and adventurous spirit in that time.

Agreed! It's my favorite album for all it's quirky, jazzy, weird, clever and brilliant charms. It has aged quite well (20 Years!) and shows how ahead of his time Prince was. Prince's creativity was untouchable during this period. Parade needs to be remastered though. This album was a European criticial darling.

Has anybody heard the Rebirth of the Flesh sessions (avant garde jazz) that took place around the Parade era.

Actually the songs u mentioned are good too eg,particuliarly Still Would Stand All Time, Graffiti Bridge, Shake is a simple but joyful tune has got a spirited vibe to it courtesy of the Time.

Yeh I suppose C & D, is not a terible album I just dont think it stands out as
an album I would put in my List Of Cool Prince Albums, there's a few things I dont like about it, I really dont like the Cover Art, its probably the only really grim and least classy album cover he's used. Based on the cover art and a couple of the guitar rocky tracks on it and the time it came out I cant help think he was kinda trying to appeal to the Grunge vibe and audience of the time that annoys me a bit cause I prefer the Prince that either dictates or doesnt give a f about the fashion of the day. I can sit through that album and think yeh there's some stuff on it thats not too bad, i just dont think there's anything particuliarly colourful or innovative on it, and the flow of the album seems bit disjointed, I like Dinner With Delores and yeh the guitar driven tracks "I like it there" and title track show that Prince can rock out, but they are probably not the best examples of songs where he rocks out see "Bambi" "Endorphine Machine" "Lets Go Crazy", and "Peach". This album like Come seemed bit more introverted and kinda aimless or without direction and focus compared to other albums.

True it was creeping in, the trasnition albums as Larry Graham emerged. Freaks On This Side was about "The truth" and to be member of NPG you had to understand the "process of creation". Come On had boring lyrics about fidelity.

Generally though both albums could be enjoyed musically without the constant JW battering ram attacks.

sorry Nova but I've listened again 2 SOTT and am still thinking this brilliant album deserves a far better production, with a big large wide deep sound as it can be found throughout TRC, TGE, News, on some parts of Emancipation, or Musicology... Or just the songs from SOTT with the clear sound of Lovesexy ? There's a gap (in term of production) between those two albums...

...anyway those 80's albums are excellent, but sometimes the sound is kind of frustrating...
