That's not a vari-speed bass, its just played high on the frets with a sharp, attacking tone. That wonderful bass solo is played for real. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Will have to go and blow the dust off my 12" vinyl LLLHHH and come back to you on that one ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I never tire of them and they get me hyped everytime. Some may say they are kinda simliar but I don't care. It's Prince and Co. doing severe Power Funk as only Prince could at that time. Damn I miss that era. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way. | |

I love that part when they're shouting "suck it, suck it, suck it!". When I first heard it I wasn't ready at all for such a funk extravaganza, I thought it was a mess, basically. Well, it IS, but a hot-as-hell mess!
Don't know about the bass solo, but the main groove is definitely speeded-up. Listen to the end when it's just the rhythm guitar and some other noise. | |

This is one of my all-time favorite Prince b-side. I remember buying the Sign of the Times single and fretting over how Prince was wearing a skirt on the cover. But I didn't care, once I heard this track, I was like, "Boy can wear whatever he wants." Yeah, I found out later that it was Cat on the cover. But I know I wasn't the only one that saw it and right away thought it was Prince and was all WTF. |
