I'm not too impressed with the song either. Like somebody said in another thread Prince trying to sound contemporary isn't too cool. Sometimes he tries to speak like later generations and sometimes it's the music itself that he's imitating. Pharell is a better Prince imitator than Prince himself.

That's not to say I dislike the song though. Maybe worse, I'm ambivalent about it. smile

hammer can dance rings around prince

prince's 3 new dancers are just beyonce female clones of the gameboyz- i.e its embarrassing. At least the gameboyz were funny in their hammer- cloning ways (damon was a hoot with the face pulling)

It ain't about trusting anyones opinion anyway, its about having the decency to repect someone elses. Lets not lose perspective here, not everyone is gonna like this song.

By doing the typewriter and the running man (LOL)

Hammer can't even come up with any original music. You don't have to like BS but I would rather hear the music coming from one of the G.O.A.T's than rip-off's like Pharrel. Who needs to stop hurting the public's ears with his god awful singing.

P has talent as a live performer, musician, songwriter and singer. None of the people you mentioned can make on this level.

He gets slammed if he tries to sound comtemporary. In 2004 in got slammed by some of you for sounding to old school with the horns. I think it maybe time for some of you to get off the Purple Band wagon.

Well, if he made all of his future albums in this vein I'd be the first off the wagon. smile

Plain and simple: I don't care for the song and I wanted theSexofit to know he wasn't the only one. I also gave my reasoning out of courtesy to others because an opinion alone is a waste of time and doesn't shed any light on things. There are times I can't be bothered to give my reasons, but I should if I'm going to post.

Video is ropey too. Whats ur general view now the hype has gone?

Shit, hammers new video is hotter then this

What's that new video called? "Don't Touch This?"
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

If thats not a joke Pharrell is one of the best producers of all time. Him and his buddy Chad (The Neptunes) always have something on the charts

Hits they produced include...

well I won't go off topic but they did the Greatest Romance Ever Sold Remix feat. Q-Tip

He' also a singer

And ironically as much as this person doesn't like him, his greatest influnce is Prince.

You're sort of right. Taken on its own merits Black Sweat has very few and smacks of self-parody. It's a one idea ditty where Prince's falsetto loses out to the squeaks and sqwawks peppered about the track to no doubt wake the listener up when they're drifting off into Hearditallbeforeland. However, compared with Te Anus Crappysong, Black Sweat is a work of genius.

Man,I wonder about some of you folks with your comparing Prince to Pharrel and other producers. Prince has done minimalistic music for years but now he is trying to sound like someone else. What are some of you put in your arms or up your noses but please put a halt to it.

like I said in another thread....I wish I could like it more.
The video is cool, and it's nice to see Prince revisiting HIS sound, updating it for this decade...

But I still think it has too much attitude and not so much melody...if u pay attention to the chorus, it's very similar to "The Work pt 1", but with another arrangement...

I just wish he would get a producer or co-producer sometimes.

I saw the video for the first time over the weekend online, and kept wondering if the song had more than a passing resemblence to "Nasty Girl" by Vanity 6.
