Come on, when you were young and watched MTV, were you crazy about seeing a 40plus artist on there? Probably not.

So why do you think that young people today need to see Prince - he is too old for them. And please - all this "they must listen to good music - today's music is so crap" is such an stuuuupid argument, and was heard in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s...

Young kids should listen to music by performers of their age up to 30.

If that was so true then why did Tina Turner blow up the way she did in the 80's? I was 5 when "What's Love Got to Do With It" came out and I LOVED it. And Tina was in her mid 40's when that happened. Let's not forget Carlos Santana in 1999-2000. He was getting airplay on MTV and mad sales like crazy. These people are proof that your comment holds no merit at all.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Here is my two cents....

Shows like 106 & Park and TRL have become as formatted as radio has. For them to feature artists like Prince and Madonna would be "too much of a risk". They would rather play it safe and go for the higher ratings. They have their own age group to sell to and in the case of 106 & Park, their own ethnic group. The producers of 106 & Park feel that it is much more to their advantage to show and feature acts like Jay-Z and Busta becuase the heads of that company believe that those artist are all inner-city kids listen to. This is not always the case. My newphews for example, listen to a wide variety of music that includes Prince. It's my guess that those videos would do well, in a regular rotation due to the fact that when showed on 106 & Park, the response was pretty good. Kids want to hear something different, but if we continue to feed them the same old things.....We will never know this.

As stated earlier . These countdown shows are a FRAUDS ! Its just a "legal" form of PAYOLA.

Universal could play the game...but is it worth it ?

Well, I did not say that old people will not have hits. But: they are hardly ever revolutionising music, and the majority of their sales come from people of age 30+. Hey, the 40+ generation is well worth attacking from a sales point of view - I just think it is better for young people to watch/listen to "fresh" music

I agree that video channels are for teens and I also agree that they should listen to the music of their generation. But we still need to listen to good music and unfortunately there is not a lot of it, at least not in the forefront of the entertainment world. You have to dig for it, when back in the day u didn't always have to and that's not fair. It's not a stupid arguement, today's mainstream music is crap. The older generations may have said that the upcoming generations' music sucked, but unfortunately these days, it's actually true.

I agree, but at the same time u have to wonder if Prince would like such underhanded tactics at getting his vids on TV. Maybe he thinks that that's one of the problems with the music industry today and wants no part of it.

Though he's not completely beneath sly tactics in promotion, such as giving everyone who came to his concert a copy of his album and including it in the ticket price so that it counts as a sale. Some would say that's was a greedy trick to get money, where I say that hearing that Prince had a #1 album again did wonders for part of his record and concert ticket sales and it got ppl excited about him again.

Prince may not care about getting tons of attention when it comes to countdown shows and music videos channels showing his stuff, but I think he should in some way because he deserves that kind of attention. He deserves to have the TRL kids wildin' out outside the studio. That excitement that comes from the heart and love of his great music, and not just the obligatory cheers that he may get just because he's legend, the way I've seen them do to some others. Just because a lot of these other artist get that attention even tho they ain't all that, doesn't mean that Prince getting it somehow demeans his genious. And just because a lot of these other artists get crazy attention doesn't mean they deserve it. Prince does and I hope he gets it again.

Your are correct that we have to dig for the "good music". But, what's so wrong with a little digging? We as consumers have become a little spoiled when it comes to music. We expect the "good" music to just fall at our feet. This is the problem. We are expecting too much and doing very little about it. One of my favorite groups, is a band called Incognito. They have sort of an acid jazz vibe to them. They just played in NY after a 10 year absence. They were asked why it took them so long to come back to the states, the leader replied, "cause we thought that no one here in the states dug us anymore." They thought that the were only loved in the UK. Needless to say, the crowd went nuts when they performed. While many of the people were fans, alot were newbies. People will be open to something new, as long as it is presented the right way. We do not appreciate here as much as the other countries do. We do no expose our children to other types of music. This is the problem. The music is there, we just have to go after it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a little digging. I'll I admit that ppl have become a little lazy about finding good music (me being one of them). It's just that so much good music is going unnoticed simple because ppl don't know about it. And they don't know about it because record companies are spending so much money stuffing our faces with a crapfest of music leaving the good guys in the dust. All I'm saying is that it's NOT FAIR. But hey, life's not fair so I guess I'll just move on with mine.
