'Fury' sung by unknown artist!

Ok, so let's suppose 'Fury' is released and it's as brilliant as a studio version as the SNL performance.

How do you think this song would do if it had been released by an unkown artist?

Where would it go in the charts?

Would it be a hit for someone else?

Will the perception of the song be overshadowed because it's a Prince song?

Huh?

1. I it was released by a 5ft 11, 22 year old spanish guy with a six pack. It woul definatley be top five.

2. top five

3. I think the song could still be a HUGE hit witht the right amount of airplay, it's Prince's best song in 10 years! no question...

4. Hopefully it gets the airplay and promotion it truly deserves.

Judging by SNL performance, this is his most commercial sounding single for a long lomg time. Probably my favourite single since 'I Hate U'.

I think 'I Hate U' should have been a huge huge hit and probably would have been if it was sung by Justin Timberlake or somebody like that. Sometimes the fact that it's a 'Prince song' and isn't 'Purple Rain'or 'Kiss'can put people off. They listen, compare it to an 80's classic and then dismiss it.

'Fury' should again be a huge hit. If it was sung by a new young Lenny Kravitz singer it would be. I hope people listen to the SONG and not compare it to the most unique and incerdible back catalogue of all time.

How cool would it be for everyone on this forum if Prince dominated the charts again? I can see the 'told ya so' faces on all of us!

I really dont understand. The song is OK and has some nice guitar work (at least live) but has no hook and has that horrid synth line in it. It sounds like a poor man's Girls and Boys crossed with Endorphinemachine but not as good as either.

From wot iv'e heard live.....fury's the bomb, can't wait to here it on the album now. Im not saying its an instant classic just yet ( probably will be ) but .... u know wot studio recordings are like, they can change things, and now that fury has been hyped up so much, iv'e gotta feeling ( just a feeling ) that a lotta people will be a bit dissapointed with it on the album.....he better not hold back on the geetar solos! headbang

Snap

If anybody but Prince came out and played "Fury" like Prince did on SNL, the whole music industry would be trippin' over themselves, especially if it were a new artist -- EVERYONE would want to know more! But since it was Prince, it wasn't that big of a surprise to the industry, but moreso to those who haven't been paying attention. That's who it's going to attract -- new listeners, new fans, and greater respect from those who dismissed Prince many years ago. It could be a HUGE hit for him, especially with a well-done video on steady-rotation.

All about the sales. The single version of Fury will differ from the album version. There will be no disappointment.

If by an unknown artist, maybe not very far. It depends on the marketing machine behind said artists. They're a lot of garage bands out there that can probably out-jam professionals. But they lack the support. But providing the artist had the right advertising, it should be a huge hit.

I dont' know if it's just my twisted imagination or not. But it does seem at times that Prince has been blackballed. Warners is a big outfit. Ocasionally, I suspect the WB of suppressing all things Prince related. But it can just be paranoia on my part
