Tom

Prince needs to simplify it all.

He records a CD.

Presses a few thousand copies of it.

Makes it available on his site for sale with a few audio samples ala CDNow.

End of story.

Well I do wish the Club closes down : at least, it would allow ALL fans to get his music like everybody else. For me, his club is like a private club where only selected people can enter - and those staying at the door can wait and expect His Majesty to be kind enough to throw some music at them.

That's not what music is about...

(come on guys, fire away!!)

ALL fans can access the music: become a member of the NPGMC. The only criteria is paying $100 per year, there is not an exclusetivity like you have to be male/female/american/jehovah witness/long-haired/brown eyes/groupie of the year or whatever.
If you do not want to pay $100: your choice but don't complain you cannot access the music.

I don't miss the downloads..and I SURE don't miss the monthly gripefest around here concerning them..lol...I prefer complete works from a musical artist over bits and pieces doled out month after month...

Even though I have decided that I don't like "One Nite Alone" very much, I will admit that the fact that it came as a CD with packaging and all that was nice... it made it feel more real, if you know what I am saying.

I like the NPGMC even though only one CD sent so far. It's cool! ONA is a great CD! I kinda like that it is uncertain of the next 3, makes it interesting! Anyway the club is cool! If it survives I think a new mailorder service would be nice, a new album released each month from either new music or material from the vault,
and old concert footage made available on video or dvd. All paid for on a per product basis of course... wink
The NPGMC will survive I hope! Well it will for this year at least smile... peace

Yeah but say he puts another cd in.. thats 5 for 100 dollars.. that still sux.. its still his devoted fans paying 20 dollars for one cd... it should be 10 dollars a cd... think about it

5 cds for 10 a piece= 50 dollars
and another 50 for extra downloads and special prices, and information about what the hell is going on...

eye'd be happy then.. but it looks like its 25 bux a pop...

TTD did it. He recorded an album. Released it independently. And also threw a few extra free songs up to download at sanandapromotions.com.

It was all pretty cool.

No hassle.

I'll get back to you all on this subject WHEN and IF I ever get my damn ONA CD. Yup, still haven't gotten it. But hey, it's only been about two and a half months since I joined the club, so I guess I should just be patient. evil

With all the respect to all of you and the right for everyone to put down the own opinion:

I really do not see any alternative for the NPGMC.
First of all, the main reason he did it was to be independend in his creation of music and to be closer to his fams. Secondly if you would still have record companies involved (also counting the bucks at each end of the day), they would tell him what to put on the records and what to release as a single or download single, etc. So that means someone else, not the musician/creator, decides what is good or bad for us. For that I think we should let Prince decide what he likes or not. And we may decide for us individually if it we find it funky or not. However at least he would stand behind the work and say: "Hey, I loved that material and I wanted to release it to all of you", I guess that sounds different than "Hey, I had some funkier stuff, but they told me not to release it to all of you. It is still in the vault". Do we really want that?
Another point for me is that I spend more than 8,33 US$ a month for nonsense... Products that I really do not need or like after I have purchased them. Where I live it is more or less the price of one "Margherita" & a muffin'. I think that is affordable.
Last one: If you are in the club you get the music, even if not xclusive, at least as one of the first worldwide (for the critics: in regular cases). Have you never xperienced that you local record store didn't have the latest release on time? Some of the big chains order their records according to a "hit factor". That means if the record is supposed to be a chartbreaker they will stock huge piles of it. If not*, like in the case of Prince, they have only a few copies that are sold out quickly and then you start driving around and try to get your copy somewhere else (in Europe online shopping is not that famous).

*decided by record company since the record must appeal to the masses.

QUESTION TO ALL OF YOU:
DO WE REALLY WANT THAT ?
DIDN'T WE SHOUT "F*** WARNER BROS" AT THE CONCERTS?
DON'T WE HATE RETAIL PRICES OF 20 US$+ ?
DO WE ASK FOR A MASS PRODUCT OR DO WE WANT THE REAL MUSIC?

U have 2 decide urself. Nobody will ever force u to join the club...

Peace, b wild
