This is one of my all-time favorite Prince b-side. I remember buying the Sign of the Times single and fretting over how Prince was wearing a skirt on the cover. But I didn't care, once I heard this track, I was like, "Boy can wear whatever he wants."

Yeah, I found out later that it was Cat on the cover. But I know I wasn't the only one that saw it and right away thought it was Prince and was all WTF.

And why didn't you just think it's a woman? I mean, knowing Cat or not, it's always been a hilarious thought to me that anyone could mistake that for Prince.

Prince wrote this song due to a bet with Sheena Easton.

She had to come up with a title to a song and Prince had to write lyrics and finally produce a song.

Title 'la la la he he he'

[b]I HAVE HEARD THAT STORY. SHEENA EASTON IS THOUGH CREDITED AS WRITING THE LYRICS OF THE SONG.

Prince & Sheena Easton wrote "Love 89" for Patti Labelle and "The Arms of Orion" of course.

Hey, I was only 17 and clearly confused. We knew Prince was a freak and always changing his look, so even though it didn't really look like him, you couldn't help but wonder, "Oh shit, did he get a sex change?" lol

I was lik 19..... and I thought it DID look like Prince.

This was the 80's. The era of gender bending... WHy is it so shocking that we did think it? It looks like him.

If you look at the cover of Sign O the Times, Prince looks kinda like a female. I think that's why everyone thought it was Prince on the 12" single cover.

I can't remember for sure, but I don't think we knew what the cover of SOTT (the album) would look like when the single was first released.

However, I distinctly remember being 17yo in 1987 and walking into a small record store to buy the 12" of this. There were a couple of older people standing around the counter talking about the cover and they asked me whether it was Prince or not... like I would be all "in the know" just because I was buying it.

I looked at this cover many times at the beginning, trying to make up my mind if it was really Prince. The Paisley Park camp was of course letting people wonder. It took about two weeks for something to confirm it wasn't Prince and I think it was a line in Rolling Stone. It was a great little stunt they pulled.

It is theres no way Prince has legs that thick or that powerfully built, so its Cat as Prince in drag, also get the puzzle Cat=cat, Prince = dog, Prince lusting after cat as part of the SOT stage show
