Will the NPGMC Survive?

The Complaints about how Prince runs his busines are silly because they are not logical. First of all, everyone complained that Prince's celebration passes were too expensive because it excluded members who were not finacially stable. Prince performed seven nights for about $35 each night. Buying a pass to his performances at the celebration saved members $350. Furthermore, he knew he'd loose money listening to his fans who are members of NPGMC about this situation, but he refunded those Opherum tickets anyway.

Secondly, everyone was angered because he moved the theatre concerts to paisley park. Everyone thought non-club members did not have the right to be in Paisley park because they didn't pay $250 or that Prince was running some scam to steal money from them. If you do the math, you will figure out that those who didn't buy a pass actually paid more to go to paisley Park for the same seats members purchased and that people who were not a member of the club could witness that it is reasonable to be apart of the NPGMC. Also, if Prince sold 10 passes and considered the celebration event sold out, isn't that his decision?

Now, everyone is complaining that Prince's music isn't quality art therefore claiming that the club is worthless. Prince is finally practicing what he's always been preaching. Some of his music may not touch all of us, but to many of us, his music is still beautiful. Let the man be creative, he's experimenting and trying all possibilites in attempt to create a new sound that defines his artistical ability more profoundly.

I think Prince is a very good business man and shows more compassion for his fans than any other artist in the business. Allowing his fans to come to his home where he produces his music says alot about the man. I don't believe Prince's attitude about his career is currency motivated these days because it was, the NPGMC would have closed after the first year. Will NPGMC be around in the future? Well, I'll say if it isn't, it's won't be because he can't make any money from it, it'll be shut down because most of his fans can't comprehend exactly what the club is about and what it actually offers to us. I'll always support Prince. In my eyes, he has done almost everything ro try to please his "fams."

Why won't the NPGMC Survive? I think it will. I am mad at the fans though for not acting Respectful in Prince's house. No one should tear up a place. I do however think Prince should move to bigger venues however and just really keep Paisley private with special events. It's becoming a Zoo. I think Prince has been too Lenient allowing everybody in Paisley Park.

Well, when people join a club, they are joining because the club provides them with something they want. When people pay for a membership to a club, they do expect to receive benefits. There has to be something special, something that is incentive to join the club or else it would be pointless to join.

If the benefits and incentives to join any club are taken away, the club will fail. If the NPGMC is going to offer the same CDs to the public that are mailed to club members as well as allowing non-club members to buy passes to the yearly Prince celebrations, it removes 2 important incentives for joining the club.

If the music mailed to club members is going to be sold at retail and celebration passes are sold to non-club members, the only benefit remaining for club members is the concert ticket purchase benefit. But if Prince doesn't come to your town, you can't use that benefit. So someone who pays $100 to join the NPGMC might start to wonder why they should pay that $100 and if that happens, the club will start to lose members.

The celebration won't work if it's moved outside of Paisley Park. Seeing Prince performing from row 20 of a theater or arena is not the same as seeing him in the intimate setting of Paisley Park.

I believe that if people can't be respectful Prince's property, the tours where people are allowed to wander around unguided should be stopped. Paisley Park tours can be run several times a day by tour guides. People at the celebration would have to catch one of the guided tours if they want to see Paisley.

Well yeah Nikki I do see your point . The members will say why bother to pay the membership fee if there is no special treatment per-say but hopefully this will not happen. Yeah the problem might have been that it just wasn't club members that were allowed to these events. That's why I didn't enjoy the night when Maceo played as much as I should have. Over-Crowding. It was Bad. So maybe it wasn't the members as much as the non-members that were annoying.

Well I do wish the Club closes down : at least, it would allow ALL fans to get his music like everybody else. For me, his club is like a private club where only selected people can enter - and those staying at the door can wait and expect His Majesty to be kind enough to throw some music at them.

That's not what music is about...

(come on guys, fire away!!)

Very well said... he should never use the word "xclusive" in his advertisements if he is going to sell the stuff to everyone. In my opinion, it is not cool of him to sell the "exclusive" material to everyone after a few months.

I, for one, will not be joining for a third year.

Why's that IstenSzek? Why would the closing down of the Club mean less music? (less than at the moment seems kind of impossible for non-members, doesn't it?!)

When Prince was with Warner, fans used to get a lot more music than now since the Club was launched.

Also, I don't really care about 4 CDs in a year (although this looks doubtful...) but what's happening is he's cashing up money without showing members the goods.
Promises, promises...

ExactlY!

Eye think Prince has a very different definition of the meaning "club", than ours.

But Y is he being a jerk 2 his hardcore fams???
We´re the ones who R supporting him, yet he is giving us... well...let´s C:
- no retail Xplosions;
- no tour announcements;
- not selling the Days O wild single and the Hit N Run singles in the club;
- no info on the 3 NPGMC cd´s;
- no surprise downloads;
- no vault-stuff...

in one word.... NADA!

So, at the moment eye am very dissapointed about the club..

Cannot even complain 2 the NPGMC, cuz they´ll only say it´s Prince´s club & he can do whatever he wants.

If this is the way the club is going 2 B: then he´ll alienate more of his hardcore fams.

But u know what? He shouldn't be, he should b a fucking musician! That's a full-time job in itself! I think he's taking more than he can handle. U know, Prince, it's ok 2 ask 4 help!

and shows more compassion for his fans than any other artist in the business.

Hold it right there! I remember seeing a mostly positive celebration report but one in which someone overheard a security guard walk by and say 2 another guard that "he has 2 understand that they r human" or something similar. I mean damn, even the security knows it. I believe that was in a situation where they were waiting outside and it was either really hot and humid or raining. I don't know, someone who was there, tell me.

Allowing his fans to come to his home where he produces his music says alot about the man.

He spends a lot of time there, but it's not his "home", it's his place of work, if anything.

I don't believe Prince is about making money these days because if he were, he'd have closed the NPGMC after the first year.

I'm sorry, but when u sell a mousepad for 20 bucks, something tells me it IS about money! The prices in the npg shop r crazeee!

Will NPGMC be around in the future? Well, I'll say if it isn't, it's not because he can't make any money from it, it'll be because most of his fans can't comprehend exactly what the club is about and what it is actually offering.

It's not that people don't know what they'll be getting. Assuming we can read, every1 should know that u'll b getting 4 cd's. That's minimum 4 EVERYONE.

The problem is not having no knowledge of what ur paying 4. It's having the knowledge that Prince won't b touring ur area, or ur country 4 that matter, when he told some U.S. fans that he was putting something 2gether 4 Europe. And knowing ur basically paying 25 bucks 4 one cd sux...unless Prince throws in an extra.

It's good ur devoted 2 him, but please don't waive ur right 2 criticize. rolleyes

Would it be better for non-members to purchase Prince's music bootlegged for various unreasonable prices than to get it retailed at a standard price? One of Prince's main objectives when he started this club was to exclusively distribute his art to his fams. Personally, I don't agree but if there are no incentives for being a NPGMC member, blame it on the bootleggers. I won't be discouraged to be apart of something that is good because of a few bad apples.

I've been a club member for 2 years. During the first year, Prince didn't perform in my state. I traveled to other cities in other states to see him perform. I didn't get upset because I know there is 50 states in the US and over 100 cities within them. I am not sure why Prince hasn't toured Europe recently, but due to safety reasons, the September 11 tragedy in the US has many artists reluctant to go overseas to perform. Terroism doesn't just kill innocent individuals, it also affects the economy.

Yea, it will. It is people like us who support the Music Club..We depend on Prince's honor to deliver the goods that he says he will...and he has.

And no matter what he does, no matter what price is affixed to any certain event there are gonna be complainers, that is "human nature".

$250.00 dollars for the celebration, heck that was nothing...look what you got! You met friends from all walks of life. You can't even began to put a price on that. And that is why next year I am attending the celebration. I want to tap in on this friendship train... smile

The NPGMC (or some other entity) will survive for Prince to do business on the internet, as this is the future of marketing/selling one's product (unless of course the large music companies influence the government on restrictive regulations but I don't see that working).

The internet is the future, it's changing peoples lives and much more is to come; however, Prince's marketing and business has to improve. He needs to put some faith and just take a chance in letting some people manage his career(Difficult though that may be, with so many snakes running around out for themselves). He's scared it seems to lose total control.

Releasing ONA now to stores, I can understand why people are upset a bit. I'm not a member (don't have the $$$ and not worth it in my opinion), so I don't know about the exclusiveness issue. One would assume everything would be like the downloads, only to the members.

It's been worth every single penny.

People just like to complain.

Lets all think back to the old days. No celebrations, no first pick of tickets, no soundchecks.

Remember folks - if you don't like the club - don't renew your membership. Just get out and go sit in the back.

I think it's a great thing he's doing. I hope it continues.

Moral of the story: U can't please everyone

Keep on doin' what you're doin', Prince, because it's unique, special, exciting and unpredictable. You can count me as a member every year. I wouldn't miss out on the music (months earlier than the public and so many downloads last yeat I lose track!), exclusive seating at shows (after years of Prince tickets fiascoes, this is the best part for me), soundchecks where we can hang with u, 7 days and nights of fam heaven at Paisley Park... I could go on but those of u that know, know. Long live the NPG Music Club and the New Power Generation. Peace and be wild,

This club is getting ZERO praise from me. So far I have received NO benefits. I paid my $100 and there was no preferred seating and he cancelled our soundcheck. As far as I'm concerned the usual Prince fiascoes are still there.

Furthermore, you don't even have to be a member of the club to get a ticket for the celebration.

I can't believe that people are having a hard time with the music club! I have never been to a concert where there was a roped off section just for people like me. And the sound check? C'mon. The celebration was wonderful and again it was for his true fams, not just any joe blow who doesn't really want to hear the music but just slam him in his house. We have gotten so much from him and he treats us like royalty. We get his new music, which by the way, we get it first and then you can buy it on the web site.(Check for the new Rave Into The Year Fantastic. It's there for anyone to buy.) If you're not in the club, you probably know someone who is, talk to them about merchandise. If we aren't grateful for what he has done, then why should he keep the cllub going? I'll be in it as long as it's there for me. The cost? Twelve bucks a month, how hard is that?
