I dont think he rehearses solos note by note as Satriani does. Somebody mentioned the differences between 'Fury' from SNL and Brit performances, and it's true. The solos are different.

However I think Prince (like most guitar players) has a handful of licks that he loves to use, and sometimes he repeats himself.

I would like to see him playing an all-improvised session (without effects or even distortion), like the jazz players do. I am curious about how he would sound.

You only have to listen to many of the demos from the Revelations DVD bootleg. Many examples of unaffected guitar prowess.

People should listen to the instrumental version of "My Summertime Thang", Prince's version.

He kicks ass on guitar. I can understand why people who have only heard some released stuff might be in doubt though. There are live and studio boots which exemplify his skills much better.

Well, it just seems to me the opposing posts are really two sides of the same coin, being argued emphatically.

- Hmm...good tip...but I dont know this one. Which year is it from? Or is it a collection of performances?

Ah, I know his version of "My summertime thang"...he really kicked ass. I only dont know why he doesnt record more stuff like that. It seems that sometimes he avoids playing jazz (example: SOTT movie, where he doesnt join the band on that Parker song, or "She spoke 2 me (extended)" where it's probably Levi), although he certainly loves the music...
Anyway, thanks for the tip, I will search for it smile
