Soundtrack of your life

Which four/five Prince songs are "musts" for the soundtrack of your life, and why?

I guess nearly all of his songs have a special place/significance to different points in my life. But for me, it's definitely (1) Let's Go Crazy: When I hear this, I'm 16 again. I'm young, insecure, growing up in a tiny Texas town and my greatest fear is that I'll never get out, never meet anyone who speaks a foreign language other than Spanish, see the world. I'm terrified my parents will never be able to afford to send me to college and I'll end up a sad, lonely, small town nothing. I remember sitting in the theatre watching Prince on the screen, listening to him belt out the words and feeling shivers of liberation and freedom down my spine. He was telling me to "Let's Go Crazy"...and take a chance on life on my own. Two weeks later I had applied for every scholarship I could get my hands on. I got three and could finally afford school.
(2) Pussy Control. It's a naughty, feminist thang, ya'all. (3) Endorphin Machine: This little ditty became me and my friends' anthem during our visit to Minnie for Xenophobia. We even shoe polished our rental car with our names, "TX Loves Prince", and "Endorphin Machine." It was bitch to get that polish off at 4 in the morning during our mad dash to the airport on our last night. And (4) Gotta have a love ballad. My most tender, loving, and erotic moments always have the man's voice playin' in the background. It's a toss up between Damn U, TMBGINTW, Case of U

How about you guys?

Why must we associate the music we listen to with the film industry? My life doesn't have a 'soundtrack', I just have songs I like to listen to. Sometimes I have silence I like to listen to, and sometimes I enjoy the silence with Depeche Mode or listen to the sounds of silence with Simon and Garfunkle. Why does TV control our lives? When was the last time someone made a good film? Would you like a Pepsi?

Is it really naughty to be a feminist?

Is this song really feminist or a sexist view of feminist thought?

Last really "good" film I saw was ...was...was...oh shit. Damn, now I know why I go to the artsy/fartsy foreign film places so much. This country's film industry bites. Shit, he's got a point. WTF, my question still remains the same...Soundtrack to your life...discuss...

The adjective naughty applies to thang, not feminist. It's very possible to be both. A girl can't help but feel proud to be a woman and get off erotically at the same time when listening to this song.

Let's discuss that. How does one land such a nice name, and then, if you've heard it spoken often does it become a 'soundtrack' to your life and in that regard is it more positive than other names?

Let's dicuss the Aztec culture! I hear that they developed science that was increadibly advanced for it's time, and then proceeded to tell the people that 'the gods' had given them the knowledge. That was how they ruled. Almost sounds familiar...

PrincPDC, Hey Man, Get your own thread! Just Kidding...that's actually cool that you'd want to discuss that. Technically, I've got two names. Both my parents are indigenous (native) but my mother was raised Catholic. I have my Aztec name that my father gave me and the Spanish, Christian name my Catholic mama stuck me with on my birth certificate. It's a pretty name, I'm not knocking it. But I grew up always being called by "Xitlai." As for Aztec culture, yes, it was a highly developed Native American culture, perhaps the most scientifically, technologically, and educationally advanced of all the indigenous cultures of the Americas. I think when the Spaniards first set eyes on Tenochtitlan (the Aztec capital) their first words were Oh Shit!. The city, home to more than 3 Million, had an architecture, infrastructure, water-management system, waste-management, market/commerce transport system, and literary class unlike any thing they had ever seen. Too bad they didn't have gunpower and a smallpox vaccine, too. Damn mad

I can't really pick Prince songs for this, but here are mine:

"Threnody For The Victims Of Hiroshima" - Krystof Penderecki

"Night on Bald Mountain" - Mussorgsky

"Verklarte Nacht" - Arnold Schoenberg

"Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi" - Carl Orff

Ahhh... that is because they are all from orchestral composers and are not songs. I don't imagine that you will be able to find them for download.

There are only small parts of "Carmina Burana" that I like... most of it sucks... but you are right, it is from "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff.
