Uh...Ice...it didn't say that they would be exclusive in the first part. It said you will be given access to an exclusive array of experiences...including unreleased Prince cd's. Maybe these aren't the unreleased Prince cd's. :p

He did keep up the exclusive part about the merchandise...I can't even order the mugs. Damn!

"Want new PRINCE music? Want NPG concert tix? Become a member of the NPG Music Club.

Yeah, right there it seems to be saying that the ONLY way you'll be able to buy tickets to any of his concerts from now on is by being a club member..and of course we ALL thought this, right??...rolleyes

By joining the NPG Music Club, U will b given access 2 an xclusive array of xperiences from PRINCE & The New Power Generation, including new unreleased Prince CDs, live events, special merchandise items, concert deals, and much more.

So, if at least one CD passed out thru the NPGMC is not released to retail, then Prince has held up his end of the bargain..because what it does NOT say is that ALL music released thru the club will be exclusive...Oh, I know, we assumed all music would be, but fuck, please!!..lol...this type of advertising-talk is used ALL the time...all it takes is a brain--and actual use of it--to see that you're not promised that EVERYTHING you're given access to as a member is exclusive, only that an "array" of things will be...so some of the CDs may be exclusive, while some may not...how hard is that to figure out??...

This was taken directly from the NPGMC web site. See the word "Xclusive"? I sure do. And what about the "need 4 any intermediates", would that not blatantly imply something like a RETAILER?

See the word "need"??...meaning, he doesn't NEED to use a retailer...not meaning, he WON'T EVER use one...sheesh..this is why I emailed them directly and asked directly, and got a direct response...not sure why nobody else felt the need to do the same...

Its his responsibility to be clear and concise up front with the details, we as customers should not have to email several times for this information.

Try this...don't become a customer UNTIL you get the information...or do we as consumers not have any responsibility when it comes to the spending of our money??...

the whole concept of charging for the opportunity to buy a decent ticket is a retarded money making scheme, no matter who is doing it. Whats next, charge for the opportunity to try and purchase the opportunity to purchase good tickets? give me a break.

Scheme or not, it has been said by many before that the CDs cost $25 each, cuz it was assumed that there WAS no charge for the services of buying tickets ahead of time...clearly, though, there is...and if it's even $30 for the service(like was the case with Dave Matthews), now we're getting 4 CDs for $70...which turns out to be $17 a CD, not $25...

I have a feeling if Prince were to take your credit card numbers you joined the NPGMC with and start charging extra shit to it, some of you would still whip up a justification for it and continue to praise his business practices.

Just shows how little you think things thru, then...lol

Well Tom if you don't like the concert perks, that's your opinion I guess. But I've been going to Prince concerts for almost 20 years now and this was the first year I was able to get anywhere near as close as I got. And I got free entrance to an amazing aftershow where I was in the front row.

Could I have gotten all this without the membership, maybe but 18 years of experience says probably not. I do think that the tickets should have been less than they were for members. Still I've paid more for concert tickets and gotten less, so I personally got my $$$ worth.

By the way, my friend... Salvador Dali is not overrated!

Anyone who writes a poem entitled "Ode to Shit" is okay in my books!!!

I personally think this is a good thing. There are a lot of hardcore fans out there, like myself, who can't afford the $100 membership to NPGMC and this will give us a chance to experience the new music without paying the big bucks.

Well apparently Prince has personally heard about the possibility of "One Nite Alone" remaining exclusive. Be interesting to see what actually happens.

Audience with Prince
Loyalty has its rewards for singer's true fans

By MIKE ROSS -- Edmonton Sun

...
" He talked about how delighted he is to finally be free of major record companies. From a troubled decade and a fight with his former Warner Bros - changing his name to a symbol was part of the fight - Prince now does all his business through his Internet Web site, npgmusicclub.com, only dealing with record companies for one-of distribution deals. One fan club member made it clear that the One Nite Alone CD should remain exclusive to fan club members.

I presume he'll take it under consideration."

Back to the subject at hand..lol :

Tom said:

Whats next, because he spelled the word 'xclusive' we're not supposed to confuse it with the word 'exclusive' and assume he actually meant it?

Uh, no...lol...just simply more reading what's actually being said, and reading it logically...our "perspectives" on what's being said don't matter as much as what's actually being said...just because it sounds like they're saying all the CDs will be exclusive to club members doesn't mean that they are indeed saying that...and in reality it says that members will get exclusive "experiences", not exclusive CDs...maybe the "exclusive experience" associated with the "new, unreleased Prince music" is getting it first, I dunno...what I DO know, though, is that after reading things like this from the NPGMC and getting into the "semantics" and "breaking sentences apart" and such(all those things SkeltonKee feels are unnecessary..lol), I reached the conclusion that I needed more clarity before joining...and to me, everyone else shoulda done the same damn thing..lol.. smile

Your logic would say that if you went to McDonalds and ordered a cheeseburger, noone PROMISED you bread with it.

Um, no again..lol...(nice try, though..lol)...my logic would say that there's a definition of "cheeseburger" already in place, so that by ordering one I'll know what it is I'm getting...that "cheeseburger" is not a very subjective term...and my logic would ALSO say that a term like "an exclusive array of experiences" is NOT defined, and IS subjective...so it's gonna be a little more vague as to what it is exactly that I'm buying...and either I ask as many times as I feel necessary in order to eliminate that vagueness...or I don't buy...simple..lol

I use my brain quite often. I know how to read.

I'll leave this one alone in the spirit of your last post... wink

are you done? lol...

look kiddo..If you put more time trying to explain *your* opinion rather then dissecting and analysing posters comments I might actually have an interest in what you say...rather you tend to want to prove your supremecy by dissecting peoples opinions, which are just that...*opinions*...

i would have been real interested in *your* view of what was posted over at npgmc, instead you tore up Tom's post and beleted his view...why?

The bottom line is, prince's (or the npgmc's) cryptic words have once again led room for interpetation...and that interpetation has caused a group of people to get upset...why not try and help them better understand your opinion rather then clowning them and pointing out how stupid they are for having those views in the first place..and thats the impression one can get by reading your posts...

if anything you should be sympathetic to their pain...empathy is a powerful thing...

further more, if you go back and actually read my posts you will see that I dont have a problem with debating..I just have a problem when people refuse to try and understand the opposing views opinion...debating and preaching are two diferent things...

you get my drift? wink

Moonbeam

This is without question a wonderful and colorful debate of semantics! Many good points have been made, but the real issues boils down to one thing: worth. Are the benefits pertaining to membership worth the $100 fee? I, for one, believe that they are. I will be receiving at least 4 CDs of material BEFORE the mass public. I have been fortunate enough to see NINE Prince concerts in the past 4 months. Most importantly to me, however, is the fact that with my membership, I AM SUPPORTING PRINCE. I am not naive enough to believe that the NPGMC runs a flawless, fluid operation. I understand that the benefits of the club may be misleading, but I am willing to look past the bugs in the system to see what is right about it: I am supporting an artist who for 25 years has produced a vast catalogue of music that has inspired, encouraged, uplifted and nourished me. I am supporting an artist who year after year puts himself on the line of scrutiny and commercial suicide for doing what he feels is right. I am supporting an artist who has entertained and bedazzled me during each of the 18 concerts I have been fortunate enough to attend. I am not going to turn my back on someone who has enriched my life as he has. I will continue to support Prince throughout his amalgam of experiments through the years. He means more to me than some great music. Consequently, I believe that the membership dues of $100 are worth what I view the benefits to be.

Now, I am not going to expect that anyone shares my viewpoint on this. Many of you obviously do not view the worth of membership to be anywhere near $100. This is your right and privilege! However, do not place the blame on Prince if you continue to support something through membership dues that you deem to be not worth it. I can understand your complaints and you are fully justified to believe as you do. However, if it upsets you so much, you are fully capable of cancelling your membership (and perhaps being compensated with a partial refund). To those of you who have not yet joined, I would suggest doing as Wellbeyond did in making yourself familiar with the club and its benefits before choosing to fork over $100.
