As i read more posts here, i'm finding "One Man Jam" a 94 East CD is being confused with the "ONA" CD.

The 'One Man Jam' CD is NOT the 'One Night Alone' repackaged in any way or form.
One Man Jam is a 94 East CD. The new 94 East cd consists of Prince ONLY playing guitar on two songs, nothing more. He is not a member of 94 East, and except for an old song on the first 94 East CD ("Just Another Sucka'")--he doesn't write or arrange any of the songs on this new 94 East CD.

Paisley Park nor the NPGMC have nothing to do with this release, nor will Prince benefit from this in any way...and it's likely old songs from the late 70's revamped for Prince fans who don't know any better esp with the misleading title.

You know what? You are right dude! This thread has just become a pointless excersize in rumour mongering...

Phew! I was getting worried for our man there. Releasing ONA would be a most terrible business decision!

94 East it is! Ive even seen it in Virgin in London!

Read the liner notes... it says Join the NPGMC etc. etc... That says it's not just for club members... Unless he wants everyone to join 2ce...

yup, the poster who said that "one man jam" is being confused for the new prince cd is dead on the money.

i just went to www.amazon.co.uk and looked up "one man jam"... guess what popped up?

a 2 disc set of all those ancient 94 East recordings (on the "Snapper" label, sounds big time, huh?!) which will be released (in this incarnation) on 22 July, according to amazon.

meet the new prince cd... same as the old prince cd.

Except fcuz for the painful experience of reading the sales figures in a year's time. ONA: 60.000 copies worldwide. [including the npgmc members]

Owch.

One thing that would be really fucked up is if this album contained more polished versions of the trax and/or new tunes. That way one might be more inclined to get a copy.

Now that would make Prince a viable contestant for the Prick O The Year award.

You are right about the sales figure... that does hurt... and you are right about his candidacy for the coveted "Prick of the Year Award."

If this is true, NOT OK. 4 albums at retail prices would only cost HALF what a membership costs. As it turns out, I was able to go to a couple of shows, so the membership experience was priceless, but I know not everybody had that opportunity (though, to the person in Spokane: IT'S NOT THAT LONG OF A DRIVE TO SEATTLE, if you really cared you could have gone, I saw the Seattle show and still drove to Vancouver BC for another one, they are worth it).

Anyway, I've seen the NPG retail people do some stoopid things, but I'm not believing this one. Is it not possible that this mp3 channel thing considers ONA to be retail because you can buy it by joining the club, or something along those lines?

I think we should wait until we actually see the thing on the shelves before we get pissed.

well, by saying "you're only 19- like you'd know how it feels to be shafted up the ass" you make it sound like nep2nes has no right to speak on the subject, ie that she cannot possibly have experienced anything particularly bad and is unqualified to judge what getting shafted is all about.

well..at least you've learned something...maybe there's hope that you'll learn the meaning of 'fan community' at some point...

i doubt, however, that your strange obsession with hating prince will allow you to pass by anything that he puts up for sale...just like you can't leave this site..or keep from renewing your npgmc membership...or keep from seeing him in concert...

you're really boring at this point...i guess that's a reflection of your life...spending your days trolling at a fan site of a person you don't like must make for a pretty miserable existence...

Good lord, who gives more than two rat turds if he does or not??...

Here's a simple fact: Never did the NPGMC promise "exclusiveness" when referring to the CDs they'd be mailing out to members...they only promised that members would hear the music "first"...yet we toss around the word "exclusive" as if they did...we put it in quotation marks even, as if we're quoting them directly...this is truly an example of passing off our own presumptions and perceptions as "fact"...

And here's a tip for those of you a bit too numb in the brain to figure this out on your own: Before I joined, I wanted to know damn sure whether or not these CDs were gonna be exclusive to members or end up in a retail store later...so ya know what I did??..I wrote the NPGMC..!..lol..I mean, imagine that alien concept, writing to the place you're about to send your $$$ to BEFORE you send it to make sure you know what it is you're getting...and they wrote back, and said they couldn't say whether or not any of the CDs would some day end up in retail stores, that it was up to Prince to decide that...well, without needing every stinkin' thing spoon-fed to me, I reached the conclusion that, yep, Prince was indeed holding out the right for himself to release these club CDs thru alternative means...meaning, I knew AHEAD of time that these CDs might end up in stores...I signed up anyway, cuz I decided that, like Aero put perfectly, months of exclusivity would be worth it to me, being the huge fan I am...(that, plus a sizeable amount of dispoable income..heh)...

If you didn't bother to find out facts beforehand and only went with what you "heard" or "thought" would be true, then just look in the mirror and yell at the stupid mf staring back atcha, cuz he/she is the one you should be pissed at...

And by the way...I read in the L.A. times that if you wanted to priviledge of buying tickets to Dave Matthews' concerts ahead of time like Prince does, you have to pay $30...if you want that same priviledge to buy concert tickets in advance to the Rolling Stones upcoming concert, it cost you $60 to join in that service...no extra CDs, no free entrance into aftershows...no soundcheck admittance, Q&A sessions with Mick Jaggar or chances to play guitar with the Dave's band...just $30 and $60 for the opportunity to buy tickets in advance to their shows...

Still think Prince is charging too much for everything the NPGMC provides??... 8)

I figure Prince just decided that this album has a better chance in stores than Xenophobia would. People could stomach Prince doing an all piano album before they could hear him doing a strict jazz fusion album with no lyrics. I think critics would like either album just because it's Prince stretching out a little musically, and I think if there was a certain amount of buzz to it, this album could do better commercially than you might think. I do think he ought to change it around a little bit and maybe add a couple of songs.

How many of us joined the club under the assumption that it was the only way to recieve his latest music?

Then in the ONA add on the site he aludes to the fact that its not.

And now this message that its hitting retail reaffirms it.

There's no way to justify this. Prince fucked his fans over again. Plain and simple. He led them to believe one thing, to get their money, then went and did another.

If I would have known the CD was hitting retail I would have WAITED and MAYBE bought it then, and saved money.

Please dont give me "the concert privileges were worth a million dollars" line...

Sure he's free to do whatever he wants, that includes being an asshole. But he's not gonna get any compliments from me for it. I pay money far in advance for something I find out will be made available in retail (contrary to what I was led to belive in the first place) most likely at a cheaper price. I have every stinking right in the world to be over his shit.

Well I guess that's your experience and it sucks. I joined five minutes after I found out he was coming to my town, so yeah the concert privileges were my motivating factor and they were worth it to me. But that's just me. Personally, I think this is all premature. Somebody somewhere on the internet says something and people get all enraged.

I don't know if it qualifies as rage, but Prince is a bit of a prick... "may the lord have mercy on his immortal soul" as they say.

Greed is one of the seven deadly sins... the only problem with using "sins" in my argument is that I don't believe in any of that crap... go on, Prince... make "'dem Benjamins" and all that.

"Want new PRINCE music? Want NPG concert tix? Become a member of the NPG Music Club.

By joining the NPG Music Club, U will b given access 2 an xclusive array of xperiences from PRINCE & The New Power Generation, including new unreleased Prince CDs, live events, special merchandise items, concert deals, and much more.

This new mode of xchange and distribution effectively eliminates the need 4 any intermediates between the Artist and U. With no middleman, let the freedom reign. All that is required of U is a computer with Internet access, a mailing address, and a direct subscription with us.

The NPG Music Club is now open 2 fams all across the world... Come!

Find out more about"

This was taken directly from the NPGMC web site. See the word "Xclusive"? I sure do. And what about the "need 4 any intermediates", would that not blatantly imply something like a RETAILER?

Its his responsibility to be clear and concise up front with the details, we as customers should not have to email several times for this information.

the whole concept of charging for the opportunity to buy a decent ticket is a retarded money making scheme, no matter who is doing it. Whats next, charge for the opportunity to try and purchase the opportunity to purchase good tickets? give me a break.

I have a feeling if Prince were to take your credit card numbers you joined the NPGMC with and start charging extra shit to it, some of you would still whip up a justification for it and continue to praise his business practices.

I've been thinking: If he releases a new version of ONA (maybe just a different sleeve) then the one he sent us becomes collectable. Hence exclusive. I mean he couldn't possibly sent out more than what? 3000? So it does help keep our ONA version in the "special" category, doesn't it?

Great work, Tom!!!

Just so nobody tries to dispute your information, here is a link to the text on the NPGMC site:

Here is an example of the mixed-message that Prince is sending with his communications:

From the "about the NPGMC" section:

"By joining the NPG Music Club, U will b given access 2 an xclusive array of xperiences from PRINCE & The New Power Generation, including new unreleased Prince CDs, live events, special merchandise items, concert deals, and much more."

Prince states the following later when you choose to join:

"Each 2002 member will receive at least 4 brand new Prince CDs in the mail from Paisley Park thruout the year. Be the first 2 hear new music fresh from the mixing board. Instrumental music, solo piano albums, and many other xciting releases r already in the works within the Studio walls of Paisley Park. And u will get them first if u join now."

He has stated that we will get them first in this statement when he has already said that they were "xclusive" in the "about" section.
